If you’re a newcomer wanting to have a go at jet skiing, then there are a handful of places around the UK that are able to offer jet skis for hire. There are also many dedicated centres, lakes and clubs around the UK for jet skiers, the majority of which require you to bring your own craft with you.

1. Middlemoor Water Park, Woolavington, Somerset

This Water Park has a purpose-built 20-acre lake and is situated in a peaceful, rural setting. The water sports centre here offers jet skiing among other sports such as water skiing and wakeboarding, and windsurfing tuition is available from beginner to competition standard — plus one, two and three-seater jet skis are available for hire. Use of wet suits and all necessary safety equipment is free. Personal jet skis can be also be used here.

2. Torbay, South Devon

Torbay is a popular venue for jet skiers, as it has over 20 miles of coastline to explore and is within easy reach of the harbours of Torquay, Paignton and Brixham, as well as the Teign Estuary and River Dart. Torbay has a growing reputation as ‘jet-ski-friendly' resort — but before going to sea within the 16 square miles of Torbay harbour, you must first register with the Harbour Authority. You should also note that under 18s are strictly prohibited from driving a personal watercraft here.

3. Monkstone Jet Ski & PWC Club, Pembrokeshire, Wales

This club was formed in 2000 by jet skiers who liked to ski from Monkstone, Johnny’s Cove and Amroth beaches, and decided to get together. The instructors at the Monkstone Jet Ski and PWC Club can help people to get their Royal Yachting Association Personal Watercraft Proficiency Certificate, which is required before you can launch from many jet skiing sites. And if you join the club, you can also take part in coastal cruising, wakeboarding and water skiing.

4. Colwyn Jet Ski Club, Colwyn Bay, Wales

The Colwyn Jet Ski Club was formed in November 1996 and has an agreement with the local authorities which allows club members to gain preferential access to the Victoria Pier Slipway in Colwyn Bay. This also includes exclusive use by members on Sundays and Bank holidays up to 12 noon. There’s also an on-site RYA Training Centre, where instructors give PWC one-day courses to members throughout the year, and the club also offers a safe environment for family jet ski activities.

5. Mudeford Personal Watercraft Club, Mudeford Quay

This club is based on the south coast of England at Mudeford Quay in Christchurch Harbour and has around 40 members who meet every weekend throughout the year. If you go jet skiing here, you’ll get the chance to cruise along either the Hampshire or Dorset coastlines. Heading west takes you to Poole, Studland Bay, Old Harry’s Rocks, Swanage Bay and Lulworth Cove, while jet skiing east will take you towards Hurst Castle, Southampton Waters and the Isle of Wight.

6. Lagoona Park, Pingewood, Reading

Lagoona Park is open all year round from 10.30am to dusk every day. At the waterpark you can get an annual membership or day membership depending on how often you intend to visit. Tuition is available in half-hour sessions, and include use of a stand-up craft, a wetsuit and a buoyancy aid. It’s also possible to complete RYA training for both beginners and experienced users here — although the minimum age for courses is 12. A one-day course includes the learning of launching, handling and recovery skills.

7. Trafford Water sports Centre, Sale, Cheshire

Cheshire Jet Ski Club is a private club with a full-time membership of over 40 individuals and families, and requires all members to have passed the RYA Personal Watercraft Proficiency Course. It is possible to ski here if you are not a member, though, but you will need to call in advance to confirm launch dates and times. The lake at Trafford Water sports Centre is available for use throughout the year: summer skiing days are on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday, whereas winter skiing days are on Sunday or Saturday.

8. Swansea Watersports, Swansea, Wales

Joining this club will enable you to jet ski at the Knab Rock area in Mumbles. The slipway at Knab Rock is one of the very few places in the UK where it is both convenient and easy to launch and recover jet skiing craft — and the club was formed to make sure that this slipway stays open to the public. To join the club, you must complete an RYA proficiency course — which you can take on-site — before you can become a full member. The club also welcomes power boat users.

9. Nene Valley Water Ski, Northampton

A jet ski lake and leisure facility offering one of the few jet ski hire operations in the UK. It is quite an exclusive club, and requires members to apply well in advance for a chance in becoming members. They have a variety of packages ranging from Peak Times to Full Day access. Nene Valley also offers space for power boat users.

10. Jet Ski Safaris, Poole, Bournemouth

A great jet ski club that offers a wide range of packages and services. The club offers both jet ski and powerboat rentals, so everyone will have something to keep them entertained. If you’re looking to getting into jet skiing for a decent price, it’s much cheaper to go during the week with a partner due to their price plan. Stag and hen parties are also welcome, with custom packages to suit everyone’s needs. The club is RYA approved, so you’re safety and quality is guaranteed!
