Getting started in dinghy sailing can boost your body's fitness and refresh your mind after a long, hard week in the office. However, before you launch straight into your own dinghy training exercise, it might be an idea to shop around for a RYA-approved dinghy sailing source. Here's the realbuzz guide to some of the dinghy sailing courses out there.
Most practical courses are run over a minimum of two days and you can expect to be taught by an experienced skipper aboard a seaworthy dinghy. You need to start off with the Dinghy Level One – Start Sailing course. This offers an introduction to sailing, covering the minimum required to get you afloat under supervision.
The real base for your sailing career is the Dinghy Level Two- Basic Skills course. This will get you past the basics and on to competently controlling your boat in light winds.

Dinghy Level One - Start Sailing
Introduction to the sport of sailing. Covers all you need to know to get afloat under supervision.

How to handle a boat in all circumstances and solve problems afloat.

Everything you need to know about sailing with a kite whether conventional or asymmetric.

How to rig the boat, gybe and recover one type of spinnaker, either conventional or asymmetric. How to sail the best possible course downwind. |

Dinghy Day Sailing
Passage planning and decision making for small boat cruising.

Dinghy Start Racing
Having learned to sail you may wish to start racing and join a club. This course takes you through the fundamentals of getting off the start line and round the course.
