Guide to kite surfing training courses
If you would like to learn to kite surf, you will need to find your nearest BKSA (British Kite Surfing Association) approved kite surf school. The registered schools are equipped and staffed with instructors who will train you at a rate of progress that is suitable for you. BKSA registered schools are inspected and monitored for safety, the quality of the training they offer, the equipment they use, and for the facilities they provide. All of their instructors have undergone BKSA training (in association with international standards IKO) at the BKSA national training centre and are licensed by the Association. All schools are inspected annually, and have the correct insurance documentation and permissions to teach in there area.
BKSA do not run training courses but do offer schools the ability to register by meeting minimum safety and equipment requirements. See the approved BSKA schools list below.
Finding a provider and learning kite surfing …
Read the schools’ information carefully and then contact them again with any questions that you might have. They will be happy to answer any queries and give you as much advice as you need. When you are confident that you’re dealing with the school that best addresses your needs in terms of available time, accessibility, cost and any other requirements you may have, make a booking to begin training.
Some people wish only to sample a day or two of kite surf training ‘a taster day/weekend’; others are keen to pursue their training to a higher degree of competency BKSA/IKO L3 or Instructor level.
Expect to pay approx £250 to £300 for a 3 day BKSA/IKO course.
