Volunteering for marine projects in the UK
Marine conservation projects at home
If you would like to get involved with volunteer marine projects in the UK, Seasearch and the BDMLR are two of the biggest organizations that offer volunteer work with marine conservation projects.
Seasearch
Seasearch is a national project set up for volunteer divers who have an interest in British marine life and want to do their bit to protect the ocean environment. The main aim of the organization is to map out the various types of sea beds found in the near-shore zone around the British Isles. Seasearch volunteers survey each area to find out which are the richest in marine life, which face problems and which need protection.
The organization runs a number of weekend events throughout the UK each year.

British Divers Marine Life Rescue (BDMLR)
BDMLR was formed in 1988, when just a few divers teamed up to help rescue harbor seals in the wash area of East Anglia. BDMLR now provide a committed 24-hour marine animal rescue service and train more than 400 volunteer marine mammal medics each year. The organization has also built 20 whale rescue pontoons located at strategic points throughout the UK to help stranded whales and dolphins.
The BDMRL is constantly looking for people to join rescue teams throughout the UK and volunteers do not have to be trained divers.
