It is hard to beat the sheer feeling of freedom, enjoyment and adrenalin that riders experience when mountain biking. In a nutshell, mountain biking offers the opportunity to discover and explore new places, meet new people and get fit — all whilst enjoying awesome scenery and fresh air — not the four walls of a gym! - It beats going to a gym and spending hours on a ‘bike’ going nowhere!
- It provides a great non-load bearing workout, without the ‘pounding’ on your joints that jogging or running can cause.

- Mountain biking is safer than road cycling (there are far less cars on the mountains!).

The leisurely approach to biking
For many people mountain biking is a leisurely pastime and a great way to get out there and enjoy a sense of freedom, to de-stress after a week in the office or simply head out and enjoy some awe-inspiring scenery with friends. Mountain biking offers an opportunity to see and discover a much larger area than when walking simply because your greater speed means you cover far more ground.
The adventure approach to biking
Those with a thirst for adventure who try mountain biking for the first time will be inevitably drawn into a highly addictive ‘adrenalin-fuelled’ world of pushing further and harder each time they ride. It is inevitable that as your riding skills, experience and stamina grow, so too will your hunger for new challenges and adventure such as racing downhill, climbing uphill, water crossings, switchbacks, dropping in, dropping off or just launching yourself from jumps!
Mountain bike racing
As you become more capable and adventurous then you may be drawn by that ‘competitive streak’ that lurks in many of us and have a go at mountain bike racing.
Race events also offer the opportunity to meet like-minded individuals and share ideas on riding techniques or bike components and bike set-ups.
Little can compete with the thrill and exhilaration of a race and putting your mind and your body to the test. There are many types of racing event to choose from including cross-country races, lap races, long-distance endurance races, 24-hour endurance races, downhill races and slaloms.
