Adidas 5k - Hyde Park

What a lovely day Sunday turned out to be, not too hot and sunny just right. The Adidas 5k in Hyde park was a really nice race to take part in. There were so many people there it took 15 minutes to actually get to the start line. Infact there were so many people that running was almost impossible. We'd see a gap and start running only to catch up with another large group and have to stop and walk again. I'd love to do this race again but I think the sheer fact that it took 2 hours of travelling on the train and walking from Victoria Station to get there and of course there was the same amount of travelling to get home which left me exhausted. The long walk back to Victoria station wasn't too bad as long as I kept going, going down a large flight of stairs to the station was painful on my knee. When we eventually got onto the train at Fenchurch Street I was grateful for the rest I'd been on my feet for 6 hours and didn't I know it. The hardest bit was to come though, by the time we arrived back in our home town my knee was painful and throbbing and there was still another mile to walk home. Anyway I made it even if it was a painfully slow hobble home. After a long hot bath and an evening resting, my knee feels a lot better.
I have come to the conclusion that no matter how many flights of stairs I climb at the gym or miles I cross train to strengthen the musles in my leg I'm always going to have to be careful with this knee. I'll have to listen to it and not ignore the warning signs...I also need to seriously question whether running is the right option for me. But until I decide or my knee decides for me I'll keep trying.

emmteeyess 'Good to see you back on here! That does seem an awful lot of exercise (?) for a 5k run - Perhaps you'd better stick local next time. My sympathy with the knees btw. Mine are becoming my 'Achilles Heel' - if that makes sense - but I still get out, it just takes longer to recover! Cheers, MTS' added 10th Sep 2010
