Goodbye snow hello new training plan

Jan19201012:25 a.m.

Hurrah the snow's gone!  The weather forcasters are predicting maybe some more light snow fall here tomorrow but hopefully that won't stick around.  Yesterday morning was the first time I'd got up early and gone out for a run in over a month, and I'd been itching to get started again since Christmas but worried about falling over again on any ice.  Well yesterday morning there was only a few frozen puddles and they were easily avoided.  Today my legs ache a little, I suppose it's only to be expected and to be honest I quite like it it reminds me that I'm back on track.  I spoke with one of the instructors at the gym Saturday to ask her just exactly what machines I should be concentrating on to increase my strength and stamina and she kindly gave me a traning plan for the next 18 weeks.  She did include treadmill work in this plan but I told her that would be done outside on the streets and no amount of persuasion on her part would change that.  Her parting words to me were 'I'll be watching you so I don't want to see you taking it easy'.

Now the planned events for 2010 are two 5k races and two bike rides, maximum distance for the bike rides is 35-40 miles.  My brother has agreed to do the bike rides with me and whoever from our families wants to join us and as he lives in Suffolk and I live in Essex it makes sense to do one in each county, so we're still looking into those.  The 5k races are much easier to chose, no1 is Basildons RFL, no2 is Addidas women's 5k.

Update on my slip over before Christmas, I was left with a very sore arm and shoulder and a bruise on my elbow which could have been more pronounced to show just how painful it was at the time.  I wrote a letter and sent it to our two councillors and MP and felt that was the end of that.  Early in the new year I got a visit from one of the councillors to tell me she was going to make a formal complaint on my behalf.  I then received a letter from our MP's office to say that he too would be contacting the coucil and would keep me informed.  After this I noticed that our council had put grit down by our local shops and I like to think I had something to do with that.  My Dad kindly pointed out that this is an election year and they're just after our votes and he's probably right, but hopefully no-one else fell over.  Not bad really for someone like me that doesn't really like to kick up a fuss.
