I have to admit I have no idea what sort of training I should be doing now.  I guess it depends on my next race, which will probably be the Shifnal Steeplechase Half Marathon in July, although there is a 10k race next Sunday (the Muller 10k) organised by a running club from the factory.  The 'goody bag' includes a tray of your preferred Muller product!!  I haven't run a 10k before and have no idea how to pace this but I might give it a go.

I'm thinking of aiming for three runs a week - a couple of shorter (10k?) runs with a double-figure mileage at the weekend? (I did enjoy the LSRs...)  I don't want to lose my current fitness so I need to have a realistic weekly programme to keep it going. I'm also thinking of scheduling a couple of gym sessions in the week to work on the core stuff, and maybe even run along to the Tuesday evening meetings of the Telford Harriers.  Never thought I'd be the running club type, but then again I never thought I'd be the marathon running type!!!  In my training for FLM2009 I never did any speed sessions, or 'intervals' or 'fartlek' and I worked out my own training plan based on what I had read and seen others doing.  And I still managed a 03:35!  I'm curious now as to what my potential could be for running this distance and maybe the running club approach would be the right way forward?

Any way I did run a 10 miler on Saturday which I completed in 01:17, averaging 07:42 minute miles, which I was pleased with and it didn't destroy me! Just the right amount of miles to be taxing but still enjoyable so I think I'll continue to do a double figure run, maybe around the 10-14 mile mark weekly.

Does anyone know what happened to Mallowman?  Did they finish?  The blog hasn't moved since the 20th April ...  Maybe the Ghostbusters got em?

    Happy running!

Good time/pace for that 10 miles, would be interesting for you to give a 10K a go, as your pace points towards a good time what with pushing it a bit more as its only 6 miles....he say's. Great that you got that FLM time without any speed work etc, Some good potential there for a faster time, must be your distance, I'm the same with the running club, thinking of going back to one, just for that extra boost, enjoy the rest of the bank holiday if youve not working.' added 4th May 2009

    • kraftykat 'Wow - that Muller 10k sounds great - I'd definitely be up for that one if I lived nearby. I love the stuff! I'm in the same boat regarding the training, not sure what to do next and how to keep up the fitness levels. I too have toyed with joining a running club but never got round to it but I think it could really help in various ways. Well done on the 10m - I've not done any exercise at all yet - better get my act together! Have a good week. PS - so glad you're still blogging!!!!' added 4th May 2009

Love Muller, if you don't send it over here.' added 4th May 2009

    • kizzi10000 'Looks a good plan. I'd definately add some speedwork (not that you need it!). I'm aiming to work towards a base of 3/4 runs a week with a speed run, a midweek 5/6 miler, and a long one of 10-15 miles. If I can alternate 10 & 15 each week it shouldn't be too hard and will be a good base for increasing to marathon training. Core would be a very good idea too, I've heard!' added 5th May 2009

I came on here last year and ended up joing the Wrekin Road Runners, something I never thought I'd do. It does make a difference to the motivation and fitness being a club member.' added 16th May 2009
