Back Running Again

Really hate this, not getting an email when someone updates their blog. Am bad enough at blogging as it is. The reminders used to encourage me to get online and do an update.
So, where are we. Got disillusioned with my physio and started my own therapy. Lots of gym, cross training and rowing. Got back into rowing again, which is nice. In the early 90's I rowed stroke for a while on the Medway in teams of coxed fours. Also been running on the treadmill and keeping the pressure off, plus running in compression socks. Look daft, something like a weird Nora Batty. Daily ice and hot baths straight after also seem to have helped.
Saw physio again last week and he agreed that we need to relook at my gait. New shoes compared to the last 3 pairs appear to show a change from heel strike to more forefoot strike, so something must have changed. Now seeing the senior guy next Monday.
Sunday I decided to have another go at a 10k. Aim was to get round without putting me back months, did try the mantra of relax and enjoy but when everyone set off the red mist descended. How dare someone be infront of me. Halfway I was on course for a PB just but did have a chat with myself to slow down, really dont want to undo the good work in recovery. Ended up finishing in 51:18, which I am happy with.
Plan now is to continue with gym and treadmill, next 10k in two weeks time and a trail race in Kent two weeks after that, when I visit my parents. Even invested in some trail shoes, fancy giving this mud larking session a go after Simone's success in Over The Hills Race.
Happy Running

Nick 'Good to see you back racing, Martin. Well done on your 10k. I'm sure you'd love a bit of trail running, but be careful - it can be hard on the old legs!' added 21st Nov 2011

Johnf 'Good mix of exercise Martin and I'm sure generally good for keeping the weight off the legs. Rowing is good, hard fun as well as being pretty good for just about all of you. Agree with Nick, the trails can be nice and soft, but incredibly uneven so are hard on the joints. Enjoyable though.' added 22nd Nov 2011

simonedumergue 'Ah hah - I will slowly and surely convert everyone into a trail runner!! I know what you mean - I haven't even been on RB for about three weeks. Without the email alerts I lose the inclination to go on and take a look. Haven't updated for ages - must do that some time soon. I hope the physio assessment on Monday goes well. Mine was an interesting session today - can fill you in on Friday!' added 2nd Dec 2011
