Overview

Hi all,  my name is Elaine and although I was born and grew up in Liverpool I have lived in Pretoria South Africa for the last 18 years with my husband and 17 year old daughter Amy. I've been running for around 10 years and have completed many marathons and Ultra Marathons. My aim is to get 10 Comrades (89Km) Marathon Medals I have finished 7 but got a stress fracture on my lower leg early last year preventing me from running Comrades 2007. I'm now recovered I ran and finished Comrades 2008.  A group of the Ladies I run with and I (5 of us all together) all went over for the Paris Marathon and London Marathon 2008 we had a brilliant time and finished both races, came back to SA and ran Loskop 50km a week later. We ran another 50k in May and then Comrades in June. July this year for the first time we all did 52km Trail race in the snowy Mountains of the Eastern Cape....   Now for a new adventure !!!

Gosh can't believe how quick this year is just flying by...

Training is still on track, want to run a 42km race in November so far so good. Ran from Sams house last Sunday she has a very undulating route from her house it was hard work ran about 13km. Tuesday I ran at the club with thegirls it was extremely hot apparently we had a heat wave early this week. Sunday I'm hoping to run a 21km race but I'm oing to the Tatoo on Suday afternoon so still haven't made my mind up yet.

This afternoon I'm leaving early we are off to the Spa staying over night so really looking forward to it, Jacqui isn't coming with us this time, just Belinda, Sam, Maureen and I.

training over the weekend went well, ran the Spar Ladies 10km race on Saturday afternoon, it was good fun as alot of guys dressup as girls and join in, Amy did the 5k and also enjoyed it. After the run our club had put on snacks and drinks for everyone. There were 14 000 competitors all together for the 2 races, it was very windy though.

Went to gym yesterday and had another good spinning session. Going to go to gym again tonight as Amy has gone to camp for the week and I'm home alone.

Belinda and I

Me in snow en-route

Jaqui put all of our 50k Rhodes trail race pictures on a CD for us, How nice. The first one is of Belinda and I en-route the second of me in the snow. That race was just fantastic, 50km of sheer hell across mountains snow ice rocks rivers and shrubs, but it was wonderful, seeing the pics reminded me of how gruelling it actually was.

Training is back on track, ran a 8km at Time trial on tuesday with Belinda, Sam and Maureen. Wednesday just Belinda and I ran another 8km around the TT route. last night I gymed and worked my arse off on the spinning bike as well as doing some stomach arms and leg machines. Tomorrow is the Spar Ladies race I'm doing the 10k Amy the 5k.

I want to run a 42km in November to qualify for Two Oceans next year, it will take the pressure off training to a 42 early in new year, Two Oceans is April easter weekend I've never done it the only year I managed to have a free Easter to go I had a stress fracture so ended up as a spectator....  which was far more fun as I had a cooler box with wine in and sat in the sun watching the runners slog up hill....

Have a great weekend will try and get out in the sun to do something about these white legs.....

Cheers

I hope that is the end of winter well and truly... Since last Wednesday it really has got warm and bright...  Todays forecast was a start of 13 going up to 30 really mild for this time of year. I actually ran in shorts on saturday first time apart from Comrades since end of May my legs have seen daylight....   but gosh are they white !!

I see the UK has a pretty dismal summer, I saw on the Sky news web site that the Sun should be making a rare appearance today....

Ran 16k on saturday maureen and Sam ran with me I haven't seen much of them over the last couple of weeks so we did some nattering and catching up...  the route was a bit tough but it went ok. Belinda walked and finished before us....   only a minute or two...  she really is walking well. Belinda won a walking race in natal two weeks ago in a new course record....  well done....

Busy trying organise a 18th Birthday party for my daughter 3rd October can't say too much on here as she sometimes in computer science class on the net checks out what I've been saying... so Nosy Amy I 'm not going to say anything.....

We are both doing the Spar ladies race on Saturday she the 5k me the 10k looking forward to that.

Have a great week.....xxxx Glad to see you are still around Kim.

Well I'm afraid after the Microsoft Partner summit in Durban I became very slack blogging and running, just didn't have time...  The conference went very well, our company hosted function at U shaka went very well it was in the aquarium side of Ushaka and everyone really enjoyed it. The black tie do was very good although we were nominated for 4 awards we didn't win any that was a bit of a bummer. Got back on the fiday evening and went out for a few drinks with friends that live close to the airport.

My husband has sold my car as we are paying for two cars and one sits on the driveway most of the time as he works out of the country on contract so I had to rely on him for a week picking me up from work, just the travelling around to fetch me and my daughter made it too much of a mission to get to gym or run club. it was his last week here so I didn't mind having a rest and spending time with him.

My daughter Amy and her school team played their first football match against another team, they got beat 1-0 not bad for first match, they played ok, hubby and I went to watch. Then Amy last wednesday passed her learner drivers test, my inlaws call it her theory..  anyway she has now started driving lessons.

This week i got back on the road, ran 8k Tuesday and again another 8k Wednesday, went to gym last night so I'm back on track with training enjoyed the little rest. Running a 16km race tomorrow.

Hey Jacqui stick at it it will come right eventually.

Cheers have a great weekend.

I went to the gym Wednesday and thursday last week although I got stuck in traffic Thursday with a chemical spill on the highway, I did manage to get there and run on the treadmill.  Saturday morning I ran with Belinda at our running club as there were no official events on. She had already started when I got there so I spent half an hour trying to catch them, luckily Belinda and Gerard the walking captain were walking slower than their usual pace so I could catch them. We finished the 8k route then Belinda and I decided to do another lap and did the 8k again. I had brought along water so it went ok.

Sunday we went to visit some old friends in Johannesburg and had a braai (BBQ) it was very nice. Off to time trials tonight and then home again to pack my case as I'm off to the Microsoft partner summit in Durban tomorrow morning until Friday. The company I work for are hosting the Wednesday night function at Ushaka marine world. We have to attend sessions and workshops Thursday and friday at the exhibition centre onThursday night is a black tie gala awards evening. Got my posh evening gown ready.

C ya next week....

I haven't run since doing the Rhodes trail run 12th July, decided that I had to rest and recover as I did Rhodes 52km only 4 weeks after Comrades but I wanted to try and keep up fitness, with doing walk the talk this gave me a good oppurtunity to do some walk training.

Last night I went to Time trials at the running club, met up with Maureen and off we went for a leisurely 8k run, it went very well considering I haven't run in a while it was also warmer that it has been lately. When we got back to the club house we met Belinda who was still going to walk down to the 6k turn around which is about 2k from the club house so we decided to join her and did another 4k. I felt quite good I was expecting to battle a bit we have a couple of steep hills on the route and I managed to get up them ok.

Kim I have heard that the comrades committee has confirmed that it will be a down run next year May 24th.

Tonight I'm going to gym my daughter will go with me. She is running the Spar Ladies race at the end of August with her tennis team from school so she needs to do some training.

The girls I run with are busy planning our next adventure, nothing as strenuous as the past adventures of this year...  we are going to the Spa for the day....  a whole day of pampering....  lovely.

Be good

Radio 702 Walk the talk event was a huge success, the 30km and 15km races started together at 7.30 am with 10 000 doing the 15k and 1500 doing the 30 k  after a congested start the walk went well and we finished in 2h22 Sam, Maureen, Jacqui and I walked together. Belinda super woman did the 30k and came 3rd overall and 3rd veteran winning R600. Not sure how many walked the 8k which started at 9:30 but we could see them streaming down the road as we we came in. The 5km had thousands doing it  Royal Canin one of the dog food producers were sponsoring the event and lots of people walked with their dogs. We had all taken a picnic champagne, breads, cheese, pate salads chips dips ect, we had started on the picnic when Belinda came to us and said she has to wait for prizegiving so we took a small cooler bag filled it with chips champers and orange juice and went back to finish to wait for her to get her prize money. Getting away from the place was hectic as most of the 5k were also leaving....  Got home only at 3.30pm. Bought a cooked chicken and had the rest of the goodies for supper at home.

The announcers at the event were so proud in saying it is the biggest walking event in the world bigger than london marathon and New York....

Yep Peta 702 is still going talk radio, they play very little music. Radio 5 is also still going which is very poplular also highveld stereo which is a Jo'burg local radio station. I'm a radio 5 fan it's on now in the office.

The wedding...  another story......   the venue was the farm Inn, my daughter and I arrive and stand outside the small chapel, I only know the Bride Angelique the groom Henry and the grooms Dad also henry. I had met two of young Henrys freinds once before. So there we are sitting in the chapel not knowing a sole. Two guys were standing at the front I didn't know either but guess they must be henrys best men?  Anyway the next thing in walks the bride.. thats not Angelique !!  once she passed us we ducked out and ran away up to reception of the main the building to find that there is another chapel... we got outside there was Angelique still outside phew we hadn't missed it, in we dashed there was Henry his dad and his friends....  phew...   Anyway everyone had a good giggle about it afterwards....  they took alot of photos and even brought out a Cheetah to have the photos with.

Have a great week.
