Watching from the sidelines

Mar1020095:09 p.m.

Well my off days are going surprisingly well but I noticed that for some reason, every time I take some time off, it seems like my injuries from the past start acting-up again. I’m not too concerned about it because they always go away after the first week of running. Anyways, I made a pretty nasty grocery this past Sunday and I’m basically stuffing myself with junk food. Maybe I’ll put on a couple pounds during this off time but I’ll lose it anyways within a couple a weeks of high mileage. I think my mom will only be happy to see that I’m looking “healthy” which is never a compliment to a runner. I guess we like to be skinny because that usually is a synonym to “fast”… at least on the longer distances. On the other hand, I’ve been fairly reasonable on the alcohol which isn’t usually the case at this time of the year. I believe that it’s mostly due to the fact that this year I have to come into work every morning as opposed to last year when I was still in school. We’ll see how it goes on the week-end though.

Speaking of the week-end, Windsor Ont will host the Canadian Interuniversity track championship from March 12th to 14th. My old team is pretty well represented and I’m glad to see 4 of the 12 guys in the 3000m being my training partners. The Sherbrooke squad is led by James (seeded at 8:20 and a PR of 8:18), then Alex (seed 8:21, PR of 8:05 and an 8:30 Steepler), Simon-P (8:29) and Baghdad (8:32 – and ran 1:05 on half marathon). It should be one hell of a race and one hell of a championship. Good luck guys!
