ANOTHER WEEK......

............has flown by, so I thought I'd check in. I completed my 'Three miles every day in December' challenge with my first visit to the new Gunnersbury Parkrun. I've only done two parkruns before - both in Richmond and both the best part of 18 months ago, but Gunnersbury Park is so local for me. It was its 10th run, and I understand has been set up by members of the relatively new Ealing Eagles Running Club, that I ran with a few times last summer.
The meeting place was just by the carpark and was very muddy - just as well my trainers aren't new! A brief chat to Christine and we were off. The course is basically a figure of 8, some down hill and some uphill, finishing with a nasty uphill bit on the grass. I wasn't feeling particularly energetic, but ran at the best pace I could and was amazed to get a time of 25:52 - only the second time I've run 5K in under 26 minutes and only 4 seconds slower than my best ever time - so I'm very happy with that (we'll gloss over the fact that the garmin read only 3:07 miles!).
So onto January and a new year of races. I've entered for the Brighton Marathon again, but like last year, I'm not sure about it, although I've downloaded a Runners World Smartcoach plan which seems a little less onerous than the Hal Higdon plan I followed for London. I've followed it this week anyway, well more or less - no tempo 3 miles as I ran pretty hard in the parkrun - but I did the required 10 mile long run on Monday and 6 miles on Tuesday. All that remains is two 5 milers, which I shall do tomorrow and Saturday.
We're also back to curcuits and running club. 10 minutes meet and retreat, run at tempo pace and then a timed fartlek for 20 minutes - all done in really hideous conditions - wind and rain - yuck!
I've been quite busy over the last week with our Pantomime, which opens this evening. It's good fun, not long and I hope we'll sell lots of tickets, as the youngsters have worked really hard to make a great show.
