Goodbye summer, autumn running is here!

"Hi everyone, my name is Footnote and yes, I am a giant foot dressed up like a runner! Welcome to my Running Blog."

For everyone north of the equator, autumn is approaching thick and fast.  As the nights get shorter and the winds start to pick up summer runners decide to spend more nights in front of the TV or take their activities indoors.

As a caped crusader I oppose anything that stops people running! I have fought many opponents in my time including Leg injuries, Blisters, Smelly trainers and now declare war against the weather!

Autumn is culling season for many runners because the weather starts to turn and that welcoming evening light we have enjoyed (when was this?) turns into screeching wind and rain intent on keeping you indoors! The hardest part of your run is not the last mile but starting your first!

I suggest a simple solution- Race!

New York Marathon!

Many of my foot buddies need some motivation to get out that front door. My foot friends find this by signing up to an autumn race whether it is a marathon, a half, 10k, or 5k!

Nothing will keep you going more than the embarrassment of turning up to a race unfit! A race will help to keep you disciplined and out of pubs!

Another tip will be to go out and invest in some decent running clothes. That scruffy cotton T-shirt from 2 years ago will just not do! You need a decent technical t-shirt and running jackets! Click here for some clothing tips!

I know many of you are currently training for an up and coming marathon so please drop me a comment below and let me know how it is going and any training questions you may have as you enter the business end of your marathon training!

Oh before i go, did you notice the fancy new Poll on the left? Well pull out your finger and let me know what your plans are!

See ya,

Footnote

I am training for the London Marathon and I am finding the training very intense. I am struggling with the diet side of things. Do you have any tips, eating patterns etc.

Thanks

Hey tamethebeast (cool name btw),

I will note the request and do an running diet special special shortly.

In the mean time I follow the following basic eating patterns:

Before exercise- high in carbohydrate (simple and complex carbs i.e. pasta the night before a big run/race = complex,
Energy drink/bar before = simple
The aim of this is to fuel your body.

Immediately after exercise (ideally within 20-30mins)- Simple carbohydrates i.e. handful of jelly beans, banana.

Meal after exercise- High in Protein too help the body repair and recover for your next run!

Here is a helpful article that will help you...
