Update: (16/05/2009)

Having made a lifestyle choice, at almost 18 stone and being unable to run to the loo(!!), I applied for the FLM 2009. I got in and ran for SPARKS having lost over 4 and a half stone! Was a fantastic day, but my right calf went after 16 miles and I limped and hobbled the last 10 and over the finish line.

So I must carry on running to keep the weight off and better my PB's. Ballot entered for 2010, so fingers crossed. - got place with Children with Leukaemia!!

Still not built for speed, but am improving and keeping going. Many thanks for the support of my wonderful wife Debs, and my two little angels, Derry and Ellie.

PB's

Half Marathon - Bath March 2009 - 2:17:30

Marathon - London April 2009 - 5:33:15

Feeling rubbish

Now I know there will be many up and downs over the next 14 weeks, so I make no apologies now for going into a meladramatic full male sulky type morose mood..........so there and everything.

Got Mrs Gazz to drop me at work on Sunday morning, with the full intention of running the 14.5 miles home. So 4pm finish and off I set..........in a way I wish I hadn't bothered. I just couldn't just my pace/rhythm or anythng right. The first 2 miles, I was sub 10 minute mie (ridiculous for me) and got totally knackered. The route in question is a bit hilly (ups and downs) and I just struggled. Got picked up at 10 miles, having had 4 walk breaks and gaving been out 1:55. Not pleased.

Monday night running club, joined Stuart's efforts section, 4 miles, with a good 2.5 at increased effort. Felt a little lazy as took rest breaks at the end of each effort as the group mustered together.

On top of this, reading the posts of the distances being achieved and pace being maintained, I am feeling pants. I need a slap around the chops with a wet cod to get me going again............or something like that. Planning to do a steady 6 tomorrow, weather allowing, then club agaon Thursday, rest Friday and Saturday, with a Stuart 14 on Sunday.

Fingers crossed, otherwise you all might have to hide the rope!!!!

Gazz.

Hand me the big wet fish and I'll do it for you ;-)
You'll be fine. I'd be lying if I didn't admit to stopping on my long runs for a quick breather or because I'm bored. Race day is different - you know that, you'll find it in you somewhere. Just get the miles trucking along, put the last crappy one behind you and keep looking forward.
Otherwise I'll have to chase you around Bath Half with a giant cod.

Hey don't beat yourself up mate... we still have 3 months and 5 days to go... 10 miles long run at this stage is ok. What you need is some Millionaire's Shortbread... I'll send some round :0)

Yes a slap with a wet fish, now that would wake you up! You have to accept some runs are pants and forget them, focus on your good ones. If you struggle on a run just slow down, get your running shape and form good again, and you'll find it gets back in tune. Two hours on your feet is still good training even if the mileage is slightly under what you wanted.

We all have runs like that. Ten miles is still a good run. Keep working hard and you will get the results. Dont be too hard on yourself or you'll find it hard to find the enthusiasm to train. Focus on positivity. You are training your mind as well as your body.

well done on 10 it is hard to motivate yourself for a long run after work.

Think its pointless to look at what other people are doing - you tend to only see the people who are faster/further than you when the truth is there are people at all levels

Trust teh program and you will be fine - and as said above you did 10 miles after a full day at work - not easy

I totally agree with Keith - which is fine for me to say as I was moaning about the exact same thing a couple of days ago! But its so true. We all run at different levels and most people couldn't get out there and run at all - never mind run 10 miles or a marathon. So don't beat yourself up - you're doing really well.
