Overview

Having just run a 3.06 PB at FLM 08 in my first 'women's start' marathon. I've set my sights on a sub 3.......Crazy, but it will be mine, someday! Muuuwaaahhh.

Took up running at age 30 to help me quit smoking (since age 14). Could not run a mile! After 4 years, and 5 marathons without breaking 4 hrs, was about to quit the marathon, but tried one last attempt, (New York) after a vigorous training program, qualified for Boston, and never looked back! ;))

 Marathons so far...

1st: Marine Corps 'peoples' marathon Washington DC Oct 2000 Time 4.20

2nd: Nashville TN May 2001 Time 4.26 (horrible hot/hilly/yuck)

3rd: MCM again! Oct 2001 (it's my local) Time 4.16 (dammit)

4th: Philadelphia Nov 2001 Time 4.15 (too soon after last one)

5th: Boston April 2002 (ran bandit, brother's number) Time 4.05

6th:  New York  Nov 2002  Time 3.38! Boston qualifying time/broke 4hrs Finally!!!

7th: Boston  April  2003  Time 3.50  not a PB, but awesome experience....this is the most amazing marathon  (along with NY)

8th:  Richmond VA  Nov 2003 Time 3.28 goal time!

9th: Boston April 2004 back again! Time 5.01 yikes...just for fun

10th:  London  April  2005  good for age start...time  3.23

11th:  Las Vegas! yeah baby....Dec 2005  5.30 (ran with hubby)

12th:  Chicago  Oct 2006  Time  3.14.37  Goal to break 3.15....it doesn't get much closer then that!

13th: London April 08 Time 3.06.38. Women's start.....now this is the best marathon ever!

This should be my new blog name....'Nomileage' after 1 whole month of not running, I've forgotten what it's like. I may even get used to this lazy non active lifestyle! I'm surprised that insanity hasn't set in (that I can tell) others may not agree. Today I recieved confirmation of my entry to NY marathon. yikes! I keep telling my Achilles all about it, in hopes of some reconciliation....(wait doesn't that constitute insanity?) At first I recieved an 'Unfortunately you have not been successful in the lottery' email! I thought what? I didn't enter the lottery, oh no! I entered the 'quaranteed' based on time qualifyer entry. what's that about? so, I called the NYRR's. I bloody did, and talked to a very nice 'Katrina' lady (just like the huricane) and it turned out they had not been able to verify my qualifying time/race which I had put as FLM 08. I had to explain, I'm not in the masses results, but in the elite womens results. Which sounds way more impressive then I am, but it happens to be fact, due to the different start time, they have kept those results seperate. I noticed they did not put the National Champion women in that early start at this years race, so I was especially lucky. Fabulous huricane Katrina of NY city found me and waved her magic wand, and just like that I am now confirmed as in Wink. Now to get fighting fit in my fabulous 40 ness by Nov 1........did you hear that Achilles pain in a @$$ tendon, we have a marathon to run, back to work I say! Yell

Yesterday saw the return of the 'Towpath Weekend Athletic Team' Surprised(yes the name is apt) as we decended on Frederick, Maryland (which we more aptly call 'Fredneck' due to it's redneck population) Foot in mouthon a rainy Sunday for the marathon relay. If any of you recall our previous marathon relay escapades, you'll know that they are usually somewhat a comedy of errors, and that we as a team are cursed to never break 3 hours, even though ability wise we should. FrownThe closest we have come is 3.00.20 (last Feb) where even though I ran the fastest leg, my shoe lace coming untied and taking 20 seconds to tie cost us the goal time Yell;(. So here we all were in fredneck at 6am ( ish) for a 6.30am start time. ( Yeah crazy early for a marathon start!) We could have got there earlier for the 'sunrise service' but you know. We need more then prayers it seems. InnocentTeam Captain' Bill' was first to start, with me to follow on the second leg. He told he'd be 45 mins. Having not worked out any of the stats I took him at his word and figured I needed to be at transition shortly before 7.15. It's amazing how time can fly....The gun went off, the three remaining teamsters hit the porta poties and headed to my car for sorting of stuff, bibs, etc. I then left the other two and ran to transition (as the crow flies) about 2.5 miles. Nice warm up. I arrived 7.13. Ok so cutting it a little close. As I said time flies! What happened was there was Bill waiting and had been for a good couple of minutes!!! Apparently ( as we later realised) the course had been modified from last year and his leg shortened and mine a little lengthed. Pants! I heaed off as fast as I could running a 6.40's pace all the way. EmbarassedIt started to rain lightly, weather was perfect for running, unlike the heat of last year. Achilles wasn't too painful until the last mile. The rain got harder and harder. Dan took the 3rd leg, and attacked the hills in great form, we were in second coed team position going into the last leg. SurprisedIt was all down to 'Teeny' and she set off on a chase with a good couple minutes between us and first and only 5 miles to do it in. At this point the other three of us who had already run were in the 'team car' but unfortunately traffic prevented us from beating Teeny back to the finish line, although we were able to cheer from the car in a couple of spots along the way. YellWe weren't there to witness the triumph as just like last year Teeny was able to pick off the competition on the home stretch Woohoo! We finished 3.02.37 1st place coed team. Money mouthWe worked out that even without the 'delay' we would not have broken 3 hours by just 12 seconds so the guys seemed to forgive me. I think the trophies helped. We all got very fabulous heavy clear glass awards with etched writing and running shoe with achilles style wings. A good paper weight no less. We are the champions. SmileNow if we could just break 3 !

Congrats to all of you who ran on sunday.Sealed It was exciting to watch. CoolI can't believe it's been a year since I was there to run it myself. This year, I went for a nice easy 6 miler, then came home made some breakfast and a large cuppa joe, and sat on my couch to watch the 2 hour highlight show they had here. Fabulous it was. Wink I noticed they didn't have the National Championchip women start with the elite womens' early start this year. I'm not surprised if they changed that. However I do feel very lucky that I got to do it, and sorry for those women who didn't. I bet they've been stuck behind the GFA men or something pants like that! Foot in mouth How about that Mara! I thought she looked way better then Irina who was grimacing badly for many miles. I thought Mara was going to win at one point. so exciting. British women rock the marathon Wink

My own racing plans have gotten a little sidelined thanks to my left achilles tendon rearing it's ugly head again! All winter it's been fine, then I was due to race a 10K this past Sunday where I had an excellent chance of the female Masters win ( and $350 prize purse thank you very much) but sure enough out of the blue I'm hobbling around. I can't tell you how frustrating this is. I'm supposed to be racing this weekend too.

Anyhoo that's all that's going on with me. It has been a very long absense, but I am going to try to be back at the blogging, especially now i've just signed up for NEW YORK!!!!! YIPPEEE. The NY marathon is turning 40 this year, and as I also turned 40 this past Feb, I think it's just meant to be. Thankfully i have a few months before training need begin, so it's re-cov-er-y! Tongue out.

We're experiencing quite a cold snap these last few days. -8 for my run this morning. SurprisedI didn't go to the track as usual for a Tuesday as last year I decided there is no way I'm ever going to run track if it's below -5 ! I don't think that's too unresasonable and especially as it's Christmas week, I can be a little kicked back. Cool I did run a nice easy 6 miler though, and if you are dressed in the right gear, you can run in any weather and be totally comfy Wink. It's supposed to warm up tomorrow. Sorry for the boring weather report! Happy Christmas & Hannukah everyone! Kiss

That would be a successful race was had by the team this past Sunday. The Jingle Bell 10K served up perfect race conditions, aprx 3800 runners showed up to run, complete with jingle bells on shoes, and a number of crazy costumes, as you do! I finished 10th overall female in 39.49, a new PB and my first sub 40 min 10K! I was V excited about that, 10K is my least fave distance to race, because it feels all out hard, and I'm just better at the long stuff it seems. I don't have that extra gear to really go fast. Still, finally I've broken that barrier, and it was a solid paced effort (19.51 @ the 5K spot) so pretty even. I wore my hot pink santa skirt, which did not go unoticed! I was interviewed at the end of the race by the washington running report, and ended up with a pic online at www.runwashington.com if you click on the report and scroll down to the end of the article, there's me complete with comments. Oh dear! I'm a bit of a prat Tongue out. I'll try to make Dan wear the skirt next year! It was all in good fun. The 'Team' pulled it together for a 7th place finish out of 49 teams, so no prizes, but not too shabby. Talking of prizes though, I got a $40 gift certificate to the running store I work at, and a fleece 'gillet' in red, with the race details on it, loverly Embarassed. So post race, my legs feel like nothing happend, which seems to be usual for me when i race short distance. this make me wonder, am I running as fast as I should/could? Surely I should be sore, however, when I race I'm going as hard as I can, I'm sucking wind! Does this mean my cardio/lungs are just not a match for my legs? What can I do to bring this into balance? Ideas? Advise? Anyone? On the track this morning, I did my workout as usual, I could feel in my lungs that I had raced hard, my legs couldn't tell at all. Undecided.

Ok, finally things are working out with the blog scene, it seems until now I did not have all the features. No wonder I was confused! Now I have everything, and even my old uploaded pics have resurfaced Smile happy am I....and today I have these Kiss smilies. I wonder what will appear next? Undecided. Today was a rest day from running, I'll do an easy 8 miler on Saturday (tomorrow) then Sunday is the return of ...........'Towpath Weekend Athletic Team' as we get together to race the 'Jingle Bell 10K' in Wash D.C. I plan to wear my Ms Santa outfit (see my pics, as I can't figure out how to insert it in here. I'm not the most computor savy unfortunately ) At the race, as part of the race packet everyone is given bells to wear on their shoes, so we 'jingle all the way' some find it quit annoying, but I just think it's fun. Hope I beat the Mayor! He races a lot, and is pretty good now. I just hope I can still beat him, and in my skirt will be extra fun Tongue out Ok, I am wicked, and Santa probably won't be visiting Frown. I'll try to be good from now on Innocent. Our team is in danger of being a right bunch of T--TS by nature aswell as name......I'm fighting a cold. Bill is going to be seriously hung over due to an important party the night before......Dan has a dodgy knee, and Taneen 'Teeny' may be going away for the weekend! We have inlisted a surrogate 'Linda' new fast women from track, but she is having a tight hamstring issue. I'm hoping despite all these probs, it will be all great on the day! Winkand victory will be ours! Race report Monday morning (or evening in UK time) have a great weekend y'all Laughing

This new blog format dosn't like me! I'm attempting again to post something, but if it dosn't work, who knows! It's been almost a month!!! I wrote a really long blog post 'Thanksgiving Turkey Trot 5k' race, only to have it vanish into cyber space, pants! So in brief, 2nd overall female in 19.48 tough course, so happy with that. I'm still around, and checking your blogs, but not always able to even post a comment. OK, that's all I"m going to write for now, fingers crossed, I'm clicking submit! ;))
