So I've made the decision to run a marathon next year...
...It's not a whim, I've always wanted to run one. It's a lifetime ambition to run the London marathon and I have applied for the last 2 and have an application in for next year. I was planning on just seeing what happens with the London marathon application and taking it from there but I've now signed up to the Edinburgh marathon as a fall back option so one way or another I have lots and lots of training to do. There are also personal issues that have led me to make this decision now and I feel that I need this to focus on and to bring something positive into my life, I'm not going into details, it's too raw at the moment.
I'm a reasonable runner but have never been a natural one (too short and stocky!), I had played rugby for years before stopping a couple of years ago due to too many injuries. I've completed the Great North Run 4 times (PB 2:14:14) and am doing it again this year and hoping to break 2hrs, I logged a 2:02:21 half-marathon training run a couple of weeks ago which should hopefully put me in a decent position for that target. Everytime I have completed the GNR (and my training half a couple of weeks ago), I have asked myself the same question, "Could I run back?", could I hell, I've got lots of training to do!
At the moment I'm not sure why I'm writing this blog, it's something that I've also wanted to do but I'm I don't know the purpose, hopefully it will become apparent to me as I do it. I'll be writing about my training and also exploring the the things that go on in my head as part of this.
Thanks for reading.
