An extra hour in the day - what would you do?

With a free hour, what would you do? More than 1,000 people were asked what they would do with an extra hour in their day and it seems relaxation and a bit of 'me' time top the list.

Here's how the results faired...

20% of people would dive into a long bath
19% of people would be lazy slugs and lie-in
16% of people would indulge in a good book
13% of people would socialise and see friends
12% of people would watch TV or a film
7% would have sex
5% would spend time with the kids
3% would hit the shops
0.7% would do voluntary work

All in all, this straw poll of peeps are a little lazy, but social and would rather have sex than play with their kids - excellent.

I personally would like the combination of the 20% and the 7% - with the 19% for afters, And then maybe the 0.7% to make me feel like a good girl again.

Actually, scrub that, my free hour today will be spent sizing up a new vehicle. Which does bring me on to another little story I want to share. For those that follow the blog, you may remember that my car was kindly written off at the end of last year whilst it was parked outside my house. Not convenient to say the least, but I am pragmatic about it - if that's the bad luck life wants to serve up, I'll take it.

And, on returning home last Friday I was surprised to see my neighbour's (a few doors down) car parked outside my house. Significant other suggested that maybe I had been gifted the car in good will, maybe they had heard about the death of my Clio and decided to give me their F Reg civic as a run-around. I ignored this, ridiculous notion, but on opening the front door to find keys, MOT certificate and log book this didn't seem such an odd idea.

So we wandered on down to their house to find out more. And it seems I was right, said vehicle had just been through its MOT and the dozy mechanic had dropped it off at the wrong house.

At that point I was willing for a hole to swallow me up, and prayed that the realisation did not show on my face. Anyway, I brushed over it and they were none the wiser, talk about the wrong end of the stick, but  I remain ever thankful that they were actually at home that night and I didn't drop a 'Thanks for the car' note though the door instead.

But, as normal, I have digressed, so back to the post, if this morning I, Miss Kirstie Iona McIntosh, could be your fairy godmother, granting you once hour of 'free' time, what would you do?

Please let it be more exciting than looking at cars...

  • Johnf 'Somebody keeps parking outside my house but they never leave the keys, luckily for them! Aah so perhaps my hour would be spent being a grumpy old man. Now I should say I would exercise or even read and write more blogs but I go with the 13% on socialising. I don't think any of us truly spend enough time having quality, uninterupted chats with friends, family or even those nearest and dearest to you.' added 27th Jan 2010
