So with the thought of Mr Murray facing one of the biggest matches of his life this weekend, I got to thinking about his pre-match superstitions, the rehearsed rituals he always completes so everything is just so. Does he choose to shave, not shave, sleep on a certain side of the bed, or maybe wear his best lucky pants?

Whilst thinking about Andy Murrays pre-match underwear choice, I decided, at that point to ditch the sports psych and leave it to Sue and Simon - they are far better informed in the world of tennis (and sport in general for that matter) than I. 

But this brought me on to thoughts of your underwear, I mean do you have lucky pants?

Well, if it's a yes, you are not alone - seems 24% of us do - well according to a little survey on modern superstitions conducted this week.  Yup, forget saying morning to magpies, and throwing salt over your shoulder, it seems our modern lives have bred modern hang-ups and having a pair of lucky pair pants is one of them - especially on a big night out or for a special event.

Other newbie superstitions include....
Picking special lottery numbers to signify birthdays, not drinking wine before beer, forwarding on chain emails and oddly, painting your front door red for good luck...(?)

Phew - glad I can rest easy that society's superstitions have evolved; now it's no worries  that I have just walked under a ladder and stepped on three drains 'cos I've got a red front door and my lucky kegs on - I'm truly invincible.
