Overview

The story goes something like this…

I have been teaching Aerobics classes for well over 20yrs, and therefore always considered myself pretty fit for my age (46) - I actually found out later that I was far from fit in running terms!

Started plodding on the treadmill years ago as a complete novice, two or three times a week, VERY VERY SLOWLY and consequently didn't really improve...

In Summer 2006 My daughter Hannah (Babykitten) wanted to join a running club (Sale Harriers) with her friend from school. I went along and got chatting as you do. Met young Jimmywhizz (speed coach) and he roped me into a few track sprints. Soon afterwards I found myself helping out doing cross-country with the youngsters for a few months, was tough but great fun. After a while Jimmy insisted I needed a goal and kept mentioning GMR 2007, I nodded and smiled appropriately.

October 2006 teamed up with Andy (RB1), and we ran three times a week regularly, it worked really well; we never let each other down (at first). We ran at Sale Harriers together for the best part of 12 months, RB went off to have a life away from running so I havn't been back to the club for a long long time.

February 2007 having signed up for GMR 07 I fell upon realbuzz and was hooked, Martin H & Jamie B made me feel very welcome J

Before GMR, and after much hassle from Martin H, I was bullied into entering my first ever race (Salford 10K), the goal being sub 60min. So met up with Russell and Martin for the first time. I was a nervous wreck. Race started, Martin flew off after a pb J and Russell kindly agreed to drag me round - it was so hard and I felt sick during and for hours afterwards, still I did manage to just scrape in sub 60!

GMR 2007 was a fantastic experience, I ran for Breast Cancer Campaign in 2007 following my Mum's partial mastectomy. My original target was to raise £100. Well in just over 4 weeks I stormed that and raised £679.00!!!!! I was so happy to have raised so much and I am forever extremely grateful to everyone who sponsored me. My Mum was just over the moon and so I achieved my goal :-))

Anyway, I guess I caught the bug as I went on to do 8 more races throughout the year of 2007 - Guess I lost the bug a tad in 2008 lol… I'll continue to plod with the hope of achieving my goal...

Long-term goal: I want to feel like a 'proper runner' one day!

Oops meant April - thanks Viki, if it was 11 May I definitely wouldn't be able to make it, I keep saying 11 May instead of April as it an important date, apologies, High Legh is definitely 11 APRIL.

Well who'd have bloody thought that could happen - what are the odds?

Lord knows how Nick must have felt having to make such a difficult decision but it was completley the right decision with all your safety being top priority - so hats off to you Nick - top organiser!

I felt so much for everyone, especially Amy, Kim, Maija & Tina who put the miles in and the expense incurred. Was an emotional one for me for a number of reasons but we are delighted it is re-scheduled... good start to a Monday morning for sure Laughing

Apologies to Rob, I had no way of contacting you and as you were not entered it didn't cross my mind with everything else that was going on on the day, at least you got a fab 20 miler in though...

On the positive side you all have more time to up your game, that 50 minute crowd is gonna be the highlight and one to watch for sure ;)

Amy & TFO are definitely coming on 11th April - BLOODY BRILLIANT!!

Sad Kim may not be able to make it back - gutted for her :(

Thanks to Laura for running her 10K and my 10k on the day with my friend in mind {{hugs}}

Thanks to all who were able to make the curry, food was great and company even better - thanks guys xx

Time to get training and there you go Paul, you have the goal you needed, best stock up on the warburtons ;)

Have a great week all xxx

LATEST NEWS: URGENT - Sunday 7.30am

Unfortunately due to the weather, in the interests of safety it has been neccessary to abandon today's race.

We'd like to assure you that this decision hasn't been made lightly . A further statement will be made later after we've contacted everyone.

NJ Cavanagh - Race Director

So sorry especially to all of you who have travelled so far, made me cry but it doesn't take much :(
Curry is still going ahead at 1:30, we are still wearing our memorial t-shirts (Of course), and will have red ribbons for everyone, would love to see you there.

Debbie Mac is new to realbuzz and will hopefully blog more soon!

My facebook photo includes Caroline Blackwell (In red top) finishing the first High Legh 10K 2008. Along with team H. Caroline was my bestest friend ever but sadly passed away suddenly on 23 Nov 2009. Caroline's closest friends and family will be running in her memory on the day.

Jamie B had a brilliant idea for any friends who would like to pay tribute to Caroline and her friends and family by wearing a small tribute ribbon, in her favourite colour (red). So for those of you wearing ribbons at High Legh, on behalf of us friends and family, I'd like to express how touched we all genuinely are and Caroline herself would have been moved to tears at such a lovely gesture - a heartfelt thank you to you all for a girl who was quite simply beautiful inside and out xx

Kim promises to help sew some with me tomorrow - phew!

Here we are only days away from the No1 HIGH LEGH 10K and the excitement is building.....

Jamie sent me a lovely message earlier this week with a lovely idea.

"I was thinking about your friend Caroline (ecsue me if I've mixed up names - I'm rubbish) today and I know it's going to be tough for you. I think you said her sister is running and I thought it would be nice to maybe pay tribute to Caroline, her sister, family and friends by maybe getting your mates to wear a ribbon. Just something simple - Caroline's favourite colour. Let me know if you want to do it"

I was really touched by this and when I mentioned it to Lynsey (Caroline's Sister) she was moved to tears. What do you all think?

It's a little late in the day to have anything fancy made up, but after mentioning this to my friend and neighbour Jo, she hot-footed off out and came back with a length of red ribbon and some pins, and wouldn't take any money, she said it was her contribution and for a lovely girl :)

So I'm going to have a few memorial ribbons on the day for anyone who may like to wear one as a tribute to Caroline, her family and friends...

On Saturday I hope to make it round to the Kilton to meet Kim, Supe running mummy, Tina and maybe a surprise guest. Hoping to get an idea of a time as soon as and Nick may be able to pop round and join us for a coffee too :). If it's early enough we may be able to drive the course if you want to?

On the day I'll be heading for the garden centre coffee shop around 9:45 I hope...

Wednesday I did a nice 6 miler with RB's Amber & Rachael (Amber is hoping for around the hour on the day and Rach is hoping for around 56, we are very similar so I will be really keen to see what time she finishes).

Also out with us were Lynsey (Carolines Sister) and Caz's other good friend Dawn. They will prob's run about 1hr 5. There are a few more, Jim will prob's aim for the hour. Russell Fryer (Prob's 50-55mins) another very very close friend of Caroline's, is heading down after a stag weekend in London - honestly! He is leaving around 5am, probably worse for wear too but he wouldn't miss this one for the world, he knew how much Caz wanted him to be at HL and she tried hard to get him there the last two years. So we will all be sporting tee-shirts in Carolines memory, which we will do year on year at HL and GMR - she will be with me every step of the way! Mine can cover my butt, that'd make her laugh ...

Nice 5K this morning with Amber and Rach again, Rach was holding back!

Hopefully you have received this agenda by email from Nick today but if not I'll post the link here

http://www.highlegh.org/race/news8.htm

Regarding the directions from High Legh to the Ishta, please follow up to turning right on Market street and hopefully you can park here outside the Town Hall a little further up on you right hand side.

There is also a multi-storey, simply take the first left off Market Street onto High Street and you'll see it opposite M & S. However, you should easily find free off road parking....

Hope you are looking forward to the No1 rated High Legh 10K as voted by Runners World readers, a lot of it's popularity is down to YOU the realbuzzers, huge thanks on behalf Nick and myself, we can't tell you how thrilled we are! You brought the buzz last year, hope you are all ready to up your game and bring that buzzzzzz right back this year, can't wait!!! Laughing

Those staying at the Premier Inn on Saturday, what time are you landing? will pop round for a coffee and catch upLaughing!

What time are you all arriving for coffee on the day?, word has it Martin H is going to stock up on fried eggs and bacon to taint his performance (Not to be missed). He has promised to donate to Hannah's SOS just giving page http://www.justgiving.com/hskearsley  £1.00 for every 30 seconds he goes over his PB of 46 minutes! What a star! Thanks to all who have sponsored Hannah so far you are very generous and we really do appreciate it massively for this fantastic cause.

Good came from me swopping to Last Runner Marshal it seems, as my friend Claire from Aerobics http://www.justgiving.com/Claire-Ramsden and my Neighbour Julie http://www.justgiving.com/juliemallam have both also agreed to run for SOS - with just a little persuasion Wink but they are very excited now, and Julie has bought new trainers, not one pair but two!

Enjoy the training, have a fab valentines weekend and see you very soooon xxxxx

BRING IT ON......

HERE'S A LITTLE REMINDER

High Legh Robbert Moffat 10K Memorial

Sunday 21st Feb 11am

THE ROUTE:

We start Here at High Legh Primary school on Wrenshot Lane:

Now we do a loop around the houses and enjoy the cheers from local residents Surprised.

Right onto Pheasant Walk:

We quickly meet a short hill after that bend in the distance (this was the original finish but now this is out of the way early on Wink. I'd say it's around 100 metres if that, not got a photo sorry... a hills a hill right?

Now take a right onto Robbert Moffat (It is his Memorial after all!). Enjoy a nice downhill bit on RM too, stretch your legs out Laughing

Bear right onto Egerton...

Now a left back onto Pheasant and at the end take a right here ...

And re-join Wrenshot Lane and out to enjoy some countryside...

Pass a nice pond on the right, and take note of the 'private do not enter' sign...

Road forks with Broadoak Lane, keep right on Wrenshot Lane, around the 1 mile mark now...

Pass a nice farmhouse on the left - (You'll hear the dog barking at you so be prepared to sprint if it get's out!)...

You may see some nice horses grazing Wink Is this a bit too detailed LOL?

You may also see some lucky folk enjoying a game of golf ...

So plenty to enjoy and then you'll reach the A50. Narrow pavement here as we enter Mere. Very brief stretch...

pass Mere Court Hotel...

And then take a left onto Bowden View Lane... around the 2 mile mark!

I prefer rear photos at my age, and I always cover my behind whatever the weather!

At the top of Bowden View Lane take the immediate left onto Hulseheath Lane...

Pass Simon's lovely thatch cottage on your left...

Left onto Chapel Lane, around the 3 mile mark here (Wonky sign!)... Water at the 5K & 8K mark!

Guess what car I drive LOL?!

Continue along Chapel Lane...

If you're totally whacked - you may get offered a ride...

Take a right onto Back Lane 3.5 miles ish (don't quote me on miles - they're guesses and not confirmed by Garmin!)

Continue along Back Lane..

Left onto Thowler Lane, can you see pigs?

Bear left for Agden - approx 4 mile mark...

Over the Motorway Bridge...

Continue onto Agden Park Lane leadng up to the A56, at the top keep left (Marshalls will be pointing and watering you here), around the 5 mile mark now... use Bridal path...

From the footpath keep left on your way home towards High Legh (High Legh Road - becomes West Lane)...

Last stretch home now, little incline thrown in!

You'll pass Kay Lane on your right, this is approaching 5.5 miles so time to dig deep!

Just over the Motorway Bridge now, then round a left hand bend and then a left here...

NOW LEG IT HOME BACK TO THE SCHOOL!! Tongue out

Hope you enjoyed your virtual tour and are looking forward to it?

I am really looking forward to the race meeting everyone on the 21st, I hope everyone thoroughly enjoys the day!! Really looking forward to the curry tooSmile http://www.onionring.co.uk/restaurants/restaurant_info.asp?RID=2417

Until then - Happy training

Ridiculously late I know but hope you have all had a great start to 2010 and continue to do so...

Had difficulty uploading my kitty from my xmas kitten, no idea why, but sorted now.

At least the thread is going well on facebook, it's a bit of a godsend really as a good few are no longer active on here but everyone seems to frequent facebook...

If you haven't seen or haven't been copied in, accept my appologies and I'll paste it hear too...

Wendy Kearsley 22 January at 20:19
Hi All, (Anyone not on the list PLEASE copy them in, there was a limited number I could add in!)

I'm struggling to get on realbuzz and so I thought I'd message on here, most people are more active on here than realbuzz now anyway - should be a fun thread too when everyone starts commenting ;)

Hows training going? I've been struggling as I haven't done much since end of Nov, back to it this week and had my first taste of RTYP (Well almost) of 2010 this morning!

Nick (Man with big hooter) has asked me today if I would like to swop my 60 min pacer marshal position to last runner marshal as the guy who usually runs as LRM fancies a go as the 60 minute marshal - makes my day stress free I guess, so I'm having a little think about it as I had made a few plans and so need to ok it. I'm all for an easy day though tbh - BUT, if I agree, I want to swop back next year Nick, maybe we could alternate?

So lot's of excitiing stuffs been happening in the run up to this the finest 10K in the country - some exciting stuff too, but I'll let Nick fill you in...

For those travelling miles and miles to the Premier Inn on the Saturday I will happily pop round in the afternoon for a drink and catch up but I need to be home in the evening as Alan will be away.

On the day SUNDAY 21st FEB @ 11am if you'd forgotten ;), shall we meet inside High Legh garden centre at 9:30-10 ish and grab a coffee?

Post race we had suggested a curry at the Ishta Restaurant in Altrincham, they are opening early especially for us. I need an idea of numbers though ASAP, so could you PLEASE confrim if you are joining in - let me tell you the food is AMAZING! I'm hoping to get us a deal too, will let you know nearer the time!

Lots of love and good luck in your training xx

CURRY post race so far:

Me & Babykitten

JamieB

Paul, Ann-Marie & Grace (Must remember high chair)

Amy

P & C

Kim

Laura & ?

Any more takers? Friends and partners all welcome

Good luck with the training, 4 weeks today, it'll soon be here Wink

Hi everyone, hope you are all well and feeling all Christmassy :)

Well the running is not going well, end of Nov after my sad loss running was the last thing on my mind for the best part of two weeks. Then I got a minor cold but it always goes to my chest so another week being sensible (Not wanting a repeat of last years flu - so poorly all over xmas last year)

Planned to go out today but the pavements are treacherous so it's a no go, yes yes I have teddy the tready but to be quite honest I just cba lol....

Good news is I have landed myself a little temporary job working behind a bar/waitressing... I have to tell you I LOVE IT SO MUCH, and it is such a good distraction for me right now. When I returned last week for my second shift, one of the managers asked if I would like a few permanent shifts - i can't tell you what a godsend this was, I could have kissed him. We haven't discussed salary, I really couldn't give a sh*t, it's just company, distraction and zero stress :)

So I suppose I've lost tonnes of fitness, not that I had that much but hell it's Christmas! You know what's keeping me going is that my friend would be really cross with me if I didn't have a good time and so I'm trying to do just that, as she would want :)

High Legh 10K is in Feb as we all know, this for me is going to be extra special and very emotional. Caroline ran the first with myself, Martin and Mother H, we also trained on the route a few times so I have decided that I MUST run HL in her memory. I am soooooooooo close to her Sister Lynsey and her closest friends Dawn & Russell. Caroline had entered HL 2010 :(. Anyway, a small group, her Sister and three other very close friends will be running HL in Caroline's memory, I plan to get t shirts printed etc :). Lynsey has taken up running as a distraction but let me tell you here and now, the girl is a natural (She just doesn't believe it and worries about everything lol), I am in touch with her daily, obviously, love her to bits and we help each other masssively. GMR evokes a very poignant memory for me, in 2006 Caz ran this in an awesome time of 52-53 mins, I was in awe and from then on ran every year but i have never come close to her time and now I really don't need to beat it, that just wouldn't feel right. She did this with very little training!, she was a natural. We will, I believe grow year on year in numbers, Caz was so special, and I will be so proud to be part of that group. I'm typing this now but I still don't allow myself to face the reality that she is gone, it's too painful, I really, honestly believe she is still there, it's my way of dealing. Lots to do now though and lots to look forward too in 2010 :).

Hope you are all doing well, maybe some of you have been unable to run also due to the poor weather conditions, but don't you dare beat yourself up, life's too short and it is Christmas after all, we'll get back on track in the New Year.

Hubby is offshore, due home Wednesday, weather permitting so my fingers are firmly crossed!

AP Jan is a possibility if only to see JamieB and Andy in shorts and Shazzoah of course, and P&C :), if Mike could make it I'd be happy to treat him to lunch but no pressure matey, good to see you're still checking in :). Realising it's the 3rd Jan I'm not sure I can make it yet, will need to see how things pan out, could still be partying Saturday 2nd!

Hope you all had a great time at Sport City's Santa Dash, I was pretty much in bits at the time and shocked to the core but will be with you all next year for sure :)

So, Happy Christmas to you all, love you lots, have a fab time and HL in Feb is going to be so special for me, can't wait to see you all there if not before, much love xxxx
