Wrap up
May0420091:22 p.m.
Seems that people are starting to drop off of this blogland. I just want to say thank you to all the people who have read and commented on this blog. I've also thoroughly enjoyed all of the other blogs I've read here. This little community has enhanced this training cycle for me immensely. For those of us who run by ourselves, this is our running club. I put in a lot of miles (turns out they were useless) for this marathon and I followed the program a lot more closely than I would otherwise because I felt I had someone to answer to here. Weird, huh?
So, my company supports the Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation (PCRF) and is a major sponsor for one of its major fundraisers, the Cinco De Mayo 5k/10k & 1/2 marathon in Irvine, California. I ran the 10k yesterday with a workmate. First run since FLM and we ran it in 47:29. I was clearly still feeling the effects from last week. Still, I was able to push my buddy to a little better time than he would have gotten otherwise. More importantly, they had a children's 1K after that. My girls were signed up, but the 4 year old was a little sick that morning. The 6 year old has yet to show much athletic talent (takes after her old man, I'm afraid). In soccer, she's the slowest on her team and the least aggressive. I expected her to run about 100 yards and then start complaining and then quitting. Instead she took right off and ran the whole way! When she got bored with running she skipped. I was very proud! Maybe we have a little endurance athlete on our hands. She kept her shirt and number on all day. So cute!

I'm thinking about signing up for the San Francisco 1/2 Marathon at the end of July. I've always wanted to run across the Golden Gate Bridge. That will keep me in shape up to that point. Then I don't know. I may just try to run a few marathons at a more relaxed pace and training schedule until I turn 45. Then take it seriously again and attempt to Boston Qualify with a 3:30:59.
I'll keep poking around this site to see if anyone is posting. I'll probably read your VLM blogs now and then. I've enjoyed this that much! We should set up some sort of reunion. Maybe a chat board up for '09 Bloggers in that section of this site. Not a bad idea. Thank you and good luck to you all!

daveredrock 'Good work Tom. Is that another medal I see around your neck? And so soon! It's all just too big time for me to keep up with. Cute kids by the way. I've got 2 girls as well although not quite at running age yet. SF half sounds awesome - you should definitely do it - then post lots of pictures. ' added 5th May 2009

Why not move your blog to the VLM page and keep in touch that way they'll be others on there who aren't running VLM so don't worry about it! I'll be moving over soon.' added 5th May 2009
