Well I finally managed to get the running shoes on again this morning.  I had actually planned to run yesterday afternoon as Second Born had a party to attend in Portobello so I thought I would drop him and then run along the Promenade a bit, pretend I was running the Edinburgh marathon.  However, Husband and First Born decided a walk along the Prom sounded good so it turned into a family walk instead, which was great but not a run.

So this morning when I woke up and saw that - wonder of wonders - it appeared to be sunny, I got up and got kitted up.  The weather was just fantastic:  sunny and frosty, the perfect combination.  My running was not.  I am seriously SERIOUSLY out of condition (which means I don't think I am up for a 6k at the end of the month - sorry Tinabee!).  I ended up having to walk/run for the whole outing and it was hard work and my legs hurt but I am so glad I went.  It took me 40 minutes to cover just under 5k but cover it I did.  Hopefully now I have been back out, I will stick at it and manage the Great Winter Run in slightly less than 40 minutes!!

I am off now for a cup of tea and a bran scone - the perfect Scottish sunday breakfast.   Hope everyone else is having a great weekend too.  Oh, and keep your fingers crossed for my brother and his wife.  Long term readers may recall that they were supposed to come up and run the Great Edinburgh Run 10k with me in May but due to illness they had to drop out.  Well they are both running a trail run near their home in Cockermouth this morning - steamer across Ullswater and then run the 12.7km or so back to the start.  Sounds horrific but they are both really looking forward to it.  Wish them luck!

It is a long 4 weeks away and this is your first proper run for some time so it was bound to feel tough. 40 mins run/walk is still a commendable time for a 5K and once you have been out a few more times you would soon be in the swing of it again. Give it a couple of more weeks before making your final decision. Well done on getting out there today - off to do my bit shortly.' added 2nd Nov 2008

I see he still blames "illness" for wimping out of the Edinburgh run - he just read your blog and knew what he was up against!!' added 2nd Nov 2008

Loved your piece on the parliament building! Looks awful from the outside so was amazed to read your positive description of the inside…..' added 12th Nov 2008
