I love pushing myself, but the irrational fear of embarrassing myself by, say, having my legs turn watery on my just before the finish line and having to quit make it unpleasant for me at times. I know, it's crazy. And I just run through it, but it's what has kept me from doing this so far. That waking nightmare that has to be just some strange type of anxiety attack.
But I know I can do this!

jeeprunner78 'Hey Dixie, I know that fear that you are talking about. I had it too but then I went and ran the course two weeks ago and felt good except for the last 5 miles but that was because it was snowing and windy. Race day should be sunny and hopefully not too warm. I suggest you can take some walk breaks during the beginning of the race and make sure you stay well hydrated. Don't go for time in the bank during the first half cause you will pay for it at the end. Keep up the high spirits and you will make it to the finish line. The crowds will get you home.' added 17th Mar 2008

RicSmith 'Hi Mandy, I understand well your fears. I just completed my first marathon 18 days ago, Though I train hard and usually complete 26 miles each Monday I was so tense I cramped at mile 12. Determined to finish the race I ran or hobbled the remaining 16 miles! I was in agony for days. I suggest a couple of bananas before the race and plenty of hydration (drink at every stop). I like the other guy's advice to start slow too. I hoped to run in Atl. but I may have to be in south FL that weekend. I will be praying for your safety and that you complete the race. I am here if you have any questions. Please let me know how you do?! Shalom, Ric' added 19th Mar 2008
