Tough Metres

Mar0820095:26 p.m.

Frankly a hard session this morning into a fair headwind on a route I've never even considered before with the added surprise of having to negotiate my way across the marshes of Essex and the terraced streets of East London.  As usual on such runs you don't over commit early in case you get stranded miles from anywhere and so not a great pace.  It was also a shock to find that I ended up a couple of hundred metres from home having only just done the half marathon distance.

That was a shame given I'd turned down the MK Half to undertake this longer run so I had to jog past home and then go out on my usual 10 k loop to top up the miles.

In the end it was worth it though the time is no great shakes and the left knee is sore, but it's these long runs which make the difference come the day or so I'm told by the old hands.

Still that's a 17 and almost 20 miler in the bag this last 3 weeks.  Two more big efforts like that over the next 14 days and I'm into wind down.  Paris being earlier than London has been a bit of a rush to train for, certainly not ideal, but I'm really looking forward having got my marathon out of the way then supporting everyone in the FLM.  For once I won't be envious but just willing everyone on to achieve their goal and cross that finishing line having had an experience of a lifetime.
