physical therapy works!

Jan0520092:58 p.m.

So I finally paid a visit to my physical therapist last Wednesday. I began seeing her earlier in 2008 when my left heel started acting up. (I began to realize that every injury/pain issue I have ever had regarding running--plantar fasciitis, broken metatarsal, heel, now hamstring--has been centered in my left leg.) She determined that the left side of my pelvis tilts backward about a half-inch from my right, certainly enough to lead to injury in such a pounding sport as running. At that time, she diagnosed stretches, which worked, and I continued running.

When she checked me out last week, she noted that my pelvis was "way off" and worked for the next half-hour to right things. Sure enough, my hamstring feels much better. I am still not 100%, still not running, but I stretch religiously several times a day, which helps me feel like there is light at the end of this long, non-running tunnel. Physical therapy, I have decided, is about the best thing out there--it's drug-free, it's logical and it works.

If you're feeling the slightest bit off, or if you have an injury that refuses to heal, I suggest you visit a physical therapist. You should find some welcome relief.
