So Useless

Hi guys. Remember me? I know its been a long time but time just keeps getting away from me. Although I must admit i've had time to write posts i've not done so because i've not had time to read all your posts.
I'm not quite sure where to start but to sum it up things have been going well. The PT business is now doing very well and i've settled in quite nicely with training the housewives of South Leicester who are now about 90% of my client base. Can't complain.
Now that the business is doing well it's allowed me to concentrate on my training properly. Before I had appointments here there and everywhere because I couldn't afford to be choosy or to turn down business. This worried me loads because I could see my dream of running 100 miles disappearing as I had no real time set aside for my own training and could only get in the odd 5 miler and my long runs were going down the tubes.
Now though my diary is organised and I schedule my own training into my diary like it's an appointment so faith has been restored and the prospect of running 100 miles is seeming very real and achievable now.
That said I still have a long way to go but I am on Target, ticking my milestones off as I go along. I do an awful lot of core training at the moment which is helping my hill training no end and have stopped getting any kind of back aches or pains when working on the hills.
My week is generally made up of one day with a couple of tempo runs, one long mid week run with hills, one day with hill repeats, a recovery run and of course the LSR.
Today was a step back which I was very grateful for because my legs were very stiff after a particularly tough class yesterday. So off I went in the sun for a 15 miler. I started off quite slowly but as my legs loosened off I started pushing is a little to sub 8 minute miles. I had 3 miles untill I hit the first big hill which is the side of a quarry. Once at the quarry I decided I wouldn't let the pace drop below 8:30 for the rest of the run. This was tough but I was starting to feel great in the late morning sun.
At the 8 mile mark I joined a guy that lives around the corner from me and at about he same pace. I'd never met him before but we exchanged numbers and after years of trying I have a local running buddy. It was great for my confidence when he said he was amazed at the route that i'd just done (the hills quite well known as being hard). We pushed the pace at sub 8 minute miles again and then He went off home. I was feeling really strong and went on further and my plan of 15 miles went a little out the window. I finished strong with 17.5 miles.
Friday i've got a race which will be the shortest one to date. A hill 5 miler which is with a few friends and clients.
So that's me done. I feel great no aches or pains and actually toyed with going for another run this evening but I thought it may lead to divorce. I had to think hard but made the decision not to go.
Starting to get organised for Caesars Camp now. Although I don't need a crew as such, if anyone wants a weekends camping people are allowed to camp at the race and i'm allowed a pacer for the last 40 miles. Let me know if anyone wants to join me. 22nd October is the date so if you famcy watching me shuffle past every ten miles then come along for a few beers and a bbq.
Not long to go until my next ultra either Hell on the Humber next week. 12 hours of a 4 mile circuit back and fourth over the humber bridge 7pm-7am. Can't wait for that one. I'm missing the races.

Jenny1961 'Aha! The blog I've been waiting for! I do know you've been busy Matt so you are excused :) It's fantastic that the business is doing so well. You were so brave starting off on your own but it all now seems to be coming together. Whilst the Casear Camp challenge looks like something to aspire to I'm not too sure about the Humber Bridge one! Crikey- that's going to be one helluva lot of running back and forth! One day I'll get to do an ultra with you...plenty of years ahead! ' added 3rd Jul 2011

Hat 'I am sooooo pleased to hear your business is going so well. Not surprised though - I bet the local housewives love you! They are the ones you want! Great stuff and happy to read you can now relax into your own training too. Scheduling it in is the only way. And as for the race you are training for, well, it just leaves me speechless! Look forward to meeting you on the Thames tow path in August!' added 6th Jul 2011

simonedumergue '"...allowed a pacer for the last 40 miles". That really does put the distance into context when you can have statements like that in your post! Great to hear the PT business is going well and you have managed to find the balance between that and your own training.' added 7th Jul 2011
