The Secret Diary

Jul2920128:16 p.m.

It's been a while but yes i'm back. For those of you that know me you can skim through this post.

I'm having another go at 100 miles. The last couple of years have been a nightmare in trying to complete my ultimate goal of running 100 miles.

2010 First attempt: I failed the South Downs Way race 57 miles in. Mainly because i wasn't mentally strong enough.

2011: It wasn't the write time due to setting up my business as a personal trainer (search Facebook for Matt Hart Personal Trainer and click "like")

2012: Injury stopped me from running for 3 months and with my job I decided not to run ultras anymore. The risk of injury was too great.

But inevitbly over the last 5 months i've been getting fed up of not having a goal to aim for. I tried to work on pbs for sorter races but it hasn't had the same effect.

I want that buzz back, the addrenaline, the unknown. So i'm back and having another go. I'm entering the 24 hour challenge in May next year. I know 24 hours for 100 miles isn't going to be easy but it's a flat course and it's laps. For someone that ran 37 miles in a 30 mile race because I got lost that will take so much pressure off.

This challenge is my challenge and it means so much to me but i'm not going to tell anyone i'm doing it. I've been telling people that I will do this for years and i'm yet to deliver so apart from my wife and you guys nobody will know until closer to the time.

This is why i've restarted my blog. I need to sound off. My wife will only put up with my running rants for so long. So you guys get it.

Any comments will be greatfully recieved.

  • SuperCaz 'Good to have you back. 100 miles is a challenge that needs to be respected so it isn't surprising that it is taking a little longer than you hoped to get there. But you have shown dedication and determination in the past so I wish you all the best this time around and believe that you are capable of it.' added 30th Jul 2012
