More woe
Oct2620065:38 p.m.
Sorry for not checking in for a while, but my injury problems got the better of me and I gave up on it this time round. I've been told I can defer my place to next year but I'm not sure if my body will be up to it and I don't want to let anyone down.
I'm undergoing some intensive stretching sessions with the occasional physio session thrown in and am swimming aplenty, but the running's taken a real back seat til I can get myself sorted. I'm not sure if it's something I'll just have to live with or if it's something that will ever get better. Here's hoping.

Had a few difficult days wearing my new trainers in. Suffered a bit with rubbing on my foot arch - might be something to do with how I run. Then again,...

jo_hopkins 'Really sorry to hear about your problems, i hope that you are still coming out to NY, don't know how you would feel watching and not running.. Hopefully with rest, good physio and structured training your injuries should heal and you can aim for next year. Real shame, take care.' added 26th Oct 2006

andrew 'Too bad Paul, I hope that you have a speedy recovery and then pick up where you left off - unfinished business. It is hard to have a knock-back like that when you have put your head above the parapet in the first place, but there are so many who don't even try and can't know what an effort it all is. Chin up, you'll cross that line if you want to, on the Runner's World site there is a guy there hoping that he will be the first double-leg amputee to cross the line and has already done two other marathons... not in that league yet I hope. Good luck ' added 26th Oct 2006

ellas_grandmother 'Don't give up.... Take your time and enjoy it.Timing is not important. If you feel fit enough to start and think you could manage part of it and walk the rest then do it. The atmosphere and the other runners will keep you going. It all depends on the injuries.. Good luck either way. ' added 26th Oct 2006

a_bet_made_me 'Hi there Paul - I'm so sorry to hear of your long standing injury - take your time in getting back to things.... if you decide no more marathons there are other races of a lesser distance around - if you find swimming and cycling easier - maybe try your hand at a triathlon before hitting 26.2 miles!!?? Good luck, keep in touch and don't give up WE know you'd prefer to out there with us, but we know you'll be cheering us on!! ' added 27th Oct 2006

Jogging_Jon 'Hi Paul. I am so sorry to read that your injury has not claered up. I am pretty sure that you can defer at New York, don't run it if you think it make it worse.' added 27th Oct 2006

PaulRitchie2 'Thanks very much for all your comments guys. I'm determined not to give up. I think I just need to be patient with getting myself sorted instead of trying to come back to it too soon. I think when you have a race on the horizon you tend to come back rather earlier than you should do. Although my blogging has been sporadic to ssay the least , it's great to know that there are people out there who do care.' added 27th Oct 2006
