Of Long Runs on sunny days

Mar15201011:20 a.m.

I've said it before, long ago, that me and heat do not get on well. Me, heat, poor hydration and a 13 mile long run get on even less well.

This weeks run was with the running club. A group training for the marathon was doing a 17 miler so I tagged along to get my 13 done. I was running late in the morning - the dreaded snooze button so when I couldn't find my bottle carrier I left without and was faced with carrying a bottle.

The run set out, the bottle lasted about 2 miles before I dumped it in a bin and the 12km first loop continued on a warm and sunny morning. I struggled to get round - at one point passing the bin I'd dumped hte bottle and contemplating diving for it to get the last dregs. But, I made it back to complete the first loop. I rehydrated and that made the feelings of stopping fade and I was a little surprised to set out on the 2nd loop of 9km before heading for home and a slap up brunch, a sleep and a film with the family.

Last weeks total milege exceeded for the first time thanks to a slightly longer run on Saturday. It also include a Saturday and Sunday run for the first time.

Now, if I can get the chaffing to allow me to sit still I can do some work.
