Week 3 - The Beginning
Jul0520098:47 p.m.
I finally sprang into action this week, spurred on by the comments on this blog - thanks guys, really appreciate it. 9 months to the Virgin London Marathon!!
The good news is that I have a lost a pound since last week although, in the words of Peter Kay "You've lost a pound? A pound?? I've s**t a pound". Viewed in those terms, maybe I shouldn't feel so smug.
I have however played 5-a-side football and been on 3 runs this week. I would give you the details, but I can't find my Polar heart -rate monitor. Does anyone else suffer from that problem - you can't find things, even when you look everywhere, including where they should be but never are? And it seems to be getting worse with age.
The longest run was 5 miles which took 45 minutes. 9 minutes miles - not bad. Only another 21 miles at that rate and I'll be a happy man.
As I said previously, the target when setting out was to get as close to my 1989 time of 3:33 as possible. Just to illustrate the scale of the challenge, I attach a photo of me taken at the lovely Tioman Island in Malaysia a couple of months after finishing my last marathon.
I'm on holiday next week so may not get chance to post an update. When I do, I'll attach a recent photo so that you can see what the last 21 years have done!! You will be shocked.
