Worth the weights??

Jul06201011:17 a.m.

I'm not a big fan of weights. In fact I feel a little inadequate when walking into the freeweights section of the gym. Juat yesterday I saw a woman training who looked like she could bench press me into oblivion without breaking sweat. However, my step son is a bit into gym stuff, and does do weights for definition, and I'm starting to feel sadly lacking! I know I can run, and cycle, and swim, and do all that other stuff, but people do say that weights can play an important part too in maintaining fitness. So I'm going to give them a go, starting yesterday. Though I absolutely ache today, yesterdays session where I did a bit on my legs too, made me feel stronger on the bike this morning into work. I think I need to get it out of my head that I'm a runner, because I'm not!! I can run, and enjoy it, but I'm not particularly good at it. So I'm moving onto the next thing whatever that may be. It will be interesting if I can stick at the wieghts for a month or so before my holiday, mayvbe thrice a week, whether I notice a difference. What I don't want to do is bulk up, so I'll keep up the cycling, I have got a 10k at the weekend with my wife (her nerves are really kicking in right now), and keep eating a bowl of branflakes for brekkie, a sandwich for lunch, and a normal dinner trying to cut out the fat, but not eat more of anything either as the weights will no doubt want me to eat more to fuel muscle growth. SO NOT HAPPENING!!!!!! I'm officially poor at the moment too, broke in fact! For the first time in a couple of years, I am struggling to make ends meet. Having said that my ends, consist of a number of luxuries that many don't enjoy, so I can't complain too much. When cash is tight it really makes me want to exercise more, mainly because I get frustrated at working so hard and the benefits not really being available back from those efforts. So I can take all that out by sweating. And it costs nothing to sweat, nothing to get the bike out of the shed, nothing to run down the road, mind you the family gym membership is 60.00 a month, so not quite nothing for this weights malarkey!! :-( Can't wait for my holiday, at least that is paid for, and fingers crossed I might look a bit better in the pool than I would if it was today!!!!
