Week #3, Run #5 Helsby Half Marathon + Week #4, Run #1

I ran the Helsby 4 Villages Half Marathon on Sunday. I've done it 4 times before. It's a great half marathon with a hill between 7.5 - 10 miles with a nice downhill finish. 2000 runners turn up every year. It is always well organised and has a good atmosphere. It was a bit cold at the start and the wind was blustery. I elected to run in my club vest as I'm always too hot once warmed up. 80 Penny Lane Striders turned up. The first 7 miles were great but the hill sapped me running out of energy around 9 miles. I managed to finish within a couple of minutes of my PB so I'm still quite pleased. Perhaps the last few weeks of marathon training have tired me out? 13.1 miles in 1:40:59 - 7:42/mile.
So week #3's total mileage is 32.73 miles. The next 2 weeks should be around 42 miles followed by another drop-down week.
I've booked 2 half marathons to try to break my PB: The Great North West (Blackpool) Half Marathon 26/2 and the Liverpool Half Marathon 18/3. They are both flat so I'm just hoping for good weather!
Tonight our group did 3 sets of 1min, 2min, 3min with 1min, 2min, 3min rest. I ran them as fast as I could with sore quads. 5.2 miles in 37:54 - 7:17/mile.

shazzer 'I was hoping to do the 4 villages half marathon but it was fully booked up when I looked at it - I am doing the Great NW Half Marathon - there are a few of us on here doing it. Hopefully the wind will be kind to us on that day and then the PB will be on! ' added 25th Jan 2012
