Happy new trainers

Before I start, the incident on my last post about the pie throwiing took place a while ago, I ran past 3 blokes who had obviously had a drink, just before I passed them I had passed two ploice officers who I heard shouting them over, as I glanced back I saw them handing out a telling off. i didn't wait around as I had to get home and eat my newly aquired pie before it went cold.

9 mile run today in my fastest average pace (9;11) of my training.I've knocked a few seconds off each of my last three short/medium runs so something must be going right. This week will probably be a series of short/medium runs, the longest will be 10 on Wednesday.

I forgot to take my MP4 today so I had to entertain myself by giving myself a history lesson of the local area. I also got thinking about whether to run with music in London or if I should do without so I can take in the atmosphere.

I was treated to new trainers yesterday for the marathon, wore them today without any problems, I'll continue to break them in over the next few weeks.

p.s

The pie really flew past my right shoulder and landed in the road but that didn't sound as good

  • simonedumergue 'Pie shenanigans sound interesting! Great to see the pace is improving. Great feeling isn't it! I always run with music and wondered how I'd cope for London but others convinced me I wouldn't need it due to all the live music around the course and the incredible atmosphere. It was far more entertaining and motivating than any music of my own could be and it was so fantastic to be engaged with it all. I took my MP3 in my running belt as a security blanket but I never took it out as I was so into the whole vibe on the day. ' added 14th Mar 2010

  • squa25 'I've stopped running with music. There'll be loads going on in London so you could try running without to get used to it or take it on the day but have it on low volume. I must get my new trainers out and start breaking them in. Thanks for the reminder. I wonder what pie it was? Did you post about it when it happened? It rings a bell, pie flying past?! • Way_Too_Slow 'Good pace for your run today, well done. I often train listening to my I-pod, specially on the long runs, but I won't use it on The Day and miss out on that atmosphere. As the others have pointed out there is lots going on, and it would be a shame to miss out. If it makes you feel better take it just in case, but bet you won't use it!' added 14th Mar 2010

I have noticed most of my runs this week seem to fall into the long category, not sure where I am going to find the time from!!' added 14th Mar 2010

  • crooxi 'One post behind, but....... I had a grin over your list of things that have happened to you out running. Most bizarre experience I've had was being asked by a young boy, "Do you want to hold my newt?" Before your imagination starts working overtime, yes, he really DID mean that literally. There's a pond in the woods where I run, and for a couple of weeks in spring, it's full of newts, and these kids had fished one out. I suppose he expected me to scream in horror, or at least refuse with a shudder, but I surprised him by saying 'Yes, okay........' It actually didn't feel unpleasant, not slimy at all; a bit like cool rubber. I told him he had to put it back though, when he had finished looking at it, so I hope he did.' added 14th Mar 2010
