The bug

This week? Well Monday and Tuesday were rest days. Spent most of Tuesday up near Kings Lynn and just didn't get back in time for a run. Got home to find the Little One throwing her guts up which continued into the evening and night. A stomach bug has been going around the Nursery.
Wednesday was the 4th Cross Country League fixture of the season at RAF Digby. The course was pretty straight forward. It was around the edge of the sports field and then onto a trail/track that skirted around the edges of several fields. Off the track and along the edge of another field and then into a disused quarry, out of the quarry along the edge of yet another field and then re-enter the sports field and repeat once more for the men. The course was quiet quick with the exception of the quarry as that had quite a few short ups and downs and several tight corners. The exit from the quarry was through a spindly little wood where anybody over 5' needed to keep their heads tucked down else you'd come a cropper from a low branch. I really enjoyed the quarry bit but found the rest of the course rather dull.
Anyway, the mile splits were 6.41, 6.48, 7.44, 6.53, 7.32 and 4.46 for the final 0.65 miles. Legs weren't too bad but still not over fresh after Sunday's Gloucester Marathon. Could really feel my quads and hamstrings after about 4 miles. Course measured 5.65 miles. Finished in 40.24 for 33rd place, about half a dozen places down on where I should have been really. Average pace of 7.07.
Little One was feeling tired but better on Wednesday which was a good job because 'er Indoors had booked some short notice flights last weekend for Thursday to take the Little One up so see her parents as both have been unwell recently. Not back til Sunday.
Had a very easy 8 mile run after work on Thursday but wasn't feeling great from lunchtime onwards. This continued into the evening and night without being able to sleep. At 0315 on Friday morning I was throwing my guts up. Not good. Struggled into work for an hour to collect some paperwork that was needed for Sunday and then returned home to spend the morning lying on the sofa watching Andy Murray loose his semi-final match. Certainly felt better in the afternoon after finally being able to eat something.
Felt much better today but didn't run 1st thing. Felt pretty much "normal" in the afternoon so headed out for a run just before 1500. A little fresh but very nice to get out in the fresh air! Just decided to see how I felt, did a very easy 8 miles in the end.
47.85 miles for the week.
Heading back out to Cyprus again tomorrow rather early doors. A not so nice 0400 start. Staying an extra day than normal which means travelling back next Saturday which is rather a pain as I live for my weekends and much rather be spending time with the Little One and 'er Indoors. Weather forecast out there looks pretty grim.....more rain again! Could be confined to the treadmill again for my runs. It hardly ever rains out there....well, just when I visit!

Firefly123 'Ouch. A lot of bugs around at the moment. I'm sorry to hear you've not been well. It sounds like neither you or TLO were ill for too long. I hope the trip to Cyprus goes well - not good when it cuts into weekends though.' added 28th Jan 2012

crooxi 'Hope you're well and truly over the bug now - doesn't sound too pleasant. It always amazes me how you manage to fit so much into your life and still have energy for so much running. Hope Cyprus turns out drier than forecast!' added 28th Jan 2012
