Black men can't jump

Jan25201011:56 a.m.

White Men Can't JumpBlack men can't jump... well not in this proposed league anyway, because they won't even be allowed to compete. You see, someone has decided in their wisdom to establish a white only basketball league in the US  which is expected to  jump off in June.

Former pro wrestling promoter Don "Moose" Lewis is planning to establish the All-American Basketball Alliance (AABA), a league which is exclusive to 'white' Americans - these being players that are natural-born United States citizens with both parents of Caucasian race.

Claiming that there's nothing racist in his intentions, Moose, said his motives are to bring back "fundamental basketball" rather than the "street ball", which he considers the African-American style of play.

A comparable situtation in the UK would be the Premier League reverting to an all white league playing 'kick and rush' and utilising 'long ball tactics' with the burly striker up front, just because he didn't want to see any football "from the ghetto" or "the slums of South America" or elsewhere. Crazy to my mind, and yet it looks like it's going to go ahead.

Moose is hoping to invite 12 teams from cities across the United States, including Augusta, Albany, and Chattanooga to join his all white league. Sadly, he'll probably get loads of takers.

I don't think Martin Luther King would ever have had had a dream that one day his children would live in a nation where basketball eligibility was judged on grounds of race and not the content of their ball handling skills.

Personally, I have a dream myself, that instead of this vile little league, they should create a basketball league for people under a certain height. That ought to level the playing court for those who are vertically challenged.  After all, it can't be that hard to slam dunk when your 6ft 9" can it?

Imagine watching a game where every player is under, say 6ft. Suddenly the game becomes more about supreme shot making rather than a load of tall freaks seemingly scoring at will. More power to the little people (of whom I would  count myself as one).
