Fantasy Jailbird XI
It's probably fair to say that football over the years has produced more than its fair share of bad boys. On some occasions they have more than overstepped the mark and ended up doing time at Her Majesty Pleasure (does it really please Her Majesty?)
Wigan Athletic striker Marlon King was banged up this week, which gives us a fine opportunity to come up with a Fantasy Jailbird XI that would give Vinny Jones' Mean Machine XI more than a fair run for their money.
For my team I've gone for a 4-3-3 formation, with what is a very attacking side, and even employs Jan Molby in central defence, where he often deputised for 'Jocky' Hansen. (The real problem being that there weren't enough naughty defenders to make up the defence).
Check out this Fantasy Jailbird XI:
1.Luke McCormick
2.Tony Adams, 3.Jan Molby, 4.Peter Storey
5.George Best, 6.Joey Barton, 7.Mickey Thomas, 8. Jermaine Pennant
9.Duncan Ferguson, 10. Lee Hughes, 11.Marlon King
Now comes the fun, Miss Marple bit. You've got to identify the player with their crime and punishment from the list of 11 below. Match the player number with the correct letter.
A) 3 years for financing a plot to counterfeit gold coins
B) 2 months for drink-driving
C) 7 years/4 months for causing death by dangerous driving and while over the limit.
D) 3 months for headbutt on a football pitch
E) 6 year sentence for death by dangerous driving
F) 6 month sentence for common assault and affray.
G) 18 months for sexual assault and assault occasioning actual bodily harm
H) 12 weeks for drink-driving and assaulting a policeman
I) 3 months for reckless driving
J) 15 months for his part in a counterfeit scam
K) 3 months for drink-driving while banned
Best of luck sorting this little lot of bad boys out.

Johnf 'Somebody else can do this one! Having worked in pro football now for 15 years I know a bit about a few that haven't got on the list, some very sad, some quite funny, though of course criminal, but almost all caused by one thing, just a total inability to hold their drink and continue to act like a human being!' added 30th Oct 2009

Johnf 'Oh ok I'll have a go, 1C, 2B, 3I, 4A, 5H, 6F, 7J, 8K, 9D, 10E, 11G Remember seeing the notes somebody made at the time taking the Mickey out of Thomas. And also always remember that Tony Adams served his time at Chelmsford, more widely seen as the front of prison used on Porridge.' added 2nd Nov 2009

Johnf 'Ok I own up, some help needed, though only on the drink drive ones which tend to blur into each other. The Storey and Thomas crimes were much more interesting and unusual for footballers.' added 3rd Nov 2009
