Hair Hall of Shame

Feb25201011:40 a.m.

Some sportstars just revel in deflecting the attention from their own performance with a hairdo that is at times beyond comprehension.

American speedskater Ryan Bedford outdid all who had gone before in the hairstyle stakes with his star turn - a hairdo that would rightly have claimed gold had complete OTT hairstyles been an Olympic sport.

Just check out the Stars and Stripes creation he turned out with for his event this week. This made all the previous efforts from Phillips Idowu look tame in comparison.

Just to prove the Bedford is not alone, I've compiled some of the best haircuts ever to have graced the sporting fields of play. You should really know who most of them are, and clearly nothing can effort match the classic comb-over made famous by Sir Bobby. David James could have had a complete gallery all of his own, and everyone knows that Fellaini's threat at corners would be far greater if his headers weren't cusioning the ball nicely for the keeper.

If I've missed any hair classics from this gallery, be sure to let me know your suggestions for the Haircut Hall of Shame. And please leave poor old Chris Waddle and Barry Venison out of it.
