3 days...
Thought I had better have a quick final posting before heading off to Nottingham tomorrow.
My knees have been okay this last week, I've managed 3 short runs and everything was fine. I had another trip to the physio yesterday and after another 1/2 hr session on my IT bands she reckoned they would be okay for the weekend (But I could only see one of her hands while she was telling me this so I suspect she had the fingers on the other one well and truly crossed). However she was less than impressed with my back and I've to make a GP appointment for when I get home to have it checked out thoroughly. The discs have been bothering me since the beginning of December now and she wants it seen to sooner rather than later.
So this last couple of weeks I've really just been taking tapering to the extreme. I did have a group cycle with the Lycra Lads at the weekend though, which was an experience in itself... I'd been sent an email saying they were going out for 2-3hrs, paced with the slowest rider (that will be me then) so I decided to go along. The problem with being the slowest paced is that I had to push solidly the whole time (while the rest were cruising) and it was well beyond my capability. It was like the worst 2hr 19m spin session you could ever imagine and I would quite happily have been dropped but one kind bloke waited back and we finished the ride together. I don't know how often I'll go out with them this year as its all starting to get too technical. I love my cycling and am keen to pick up as many tips as I can, however having someone sitting at my back wheel checking I'm doing 100 revs no matter if its uphill, downhill or flat, and telling me that I should only be using 4 gears on the small chain ring and none on the large ring at all kind of takes the 'fun' element out of it a little.
Tonight sees me trying to pack for going away this weekend... I was determined just to take hand luggage, but at the moment it looks like I'll probably have to wear my trainers when travelling as they are not going to fit in my back pack... I'm also hoping to catch part 2 of Eddie Izzards Marathon Man later. I missed it last week, but was informed by RB2 that he had to get his IT bands stripped as well. Up to that point I suspect RB2 thought I had been exaggerating the pain inflicted, but she said he had tears in his eyes and his fist in his mouth trying to stop himself screaming... My comment was that my physio was damn lucky not to have had my fist in her mouth when she did my right leg last week. And even yesterday when she said "this will hurt you far more than it will me" all she got was "wanna bet" in reply... I also have to go back and see her after the race too, so I'll be looking forward to that immensely, as you can imagine.
Good luck to everyone else racing this weekend, and hopefully I'll be catching up with a few folk at the Kilomathon.
Take care
