Divine Davina

Well hello again dear chums. As promised I am indeed sporting a Christmas sweater ( a la Ronnie Corbett in the Two Ronnies) and as I sit here and munch happily on an M & S chocolate biscuit (well they have got to be eaten), I am pondering my New Year fitness regime. I fear I have indulged a little too excessively this festive season and not even the penance of a 3-mile run yesterday, nor indeed a frantic Davina Fit workout today (more of that anon), has made me feel I have repented sufficiently. And there are still more biscuits to eat........ and so little time.

However back to Davina Fit, which costs £19.99, but you can pick it up on Amazon and Play.com for £12.99. It is our favourite Big Brother presenter bouncing along in a very perky fitness DVD in the company of her trainers Mark and Jackie Wren. Now I have never seen a Davina fitness DVD before, although I know she has made several in the past, but I must say I really enjoyed it. Davina comes across a little bit like an enthusiastic puppy at times, grinning and gurning at the camera in a slightly maniacal fashion.

But she is still the girl at school you wanted to be friends with and I have to say, she won me over with her introductory spiel at the top of the DVD about the value of regular training. I know we all know it, but sometimes we need to be sold it and she did that. Plus she looks amazing for a woman who's had 3 children.

Ms McCall’s latest offering is split into four categories. Top Fit. Bottom Fit. Aerobics Fit and Kick Fit. I opted to have a go at Aerobic Fit based simply on the number of biscuits I had eaten in the previous 24 hours and on the promise that it would burn some fat, hopefully about 4 pounds worth.

Aerobic Fit

Well I loved it. All the workouts are 30 minutes long with a simple warm-up at the start. But I can tell you right now I knew what was coming as a bead of sweat muscled onto my lip after the first few warm-up exercises. The routine though was easy to follow, which I keep banging on about, but it is essential. And I loved the exercises, apart from the squats, which hurt a lot and I know will hurt even more in the morning. This workout is driven by Jackie, who is also in charge of the Kick fit section. Mark we are told does the Top and Bottom Fit sections, which Davina warns us are full on because he is an ex-marine.....

Well I will let you know about that, because I fully intend to have a go at all of them. I had a ball doing Aerobic fit even though I nearly did myself a serious injury when I unintentionally did the splits on the rug in our lounge as it slid sideways on our wooden floor during an energetic lunge. But I recovered my pelvic floor and my composure to plough on and marvel at Davina’s energy and banter. She doesn’t half go on, but I love her, I really do and her workout made me sweat and believe that she can get me fit. Only time will tell my lovelies, but having waded through 3 of these fitness DVD’s now, I have turned into a bit of a devotee. It has changed my slightly sniffy view of them and I think I will be including them in my fitness routine from now on.

So Davina gets the thumbs up and I will let you know how those other workouts go. Right I am off to pack for a trip to the snowy north. Have fun and be good and when you too have finished those chocolate biscuits, let’s get fit together in the New Year.....come on. We can get in shape in time for Easter......by which time I shall be pictured casually leaning against a wall in lycra, just like our Davina....
