Fantasy Strictly

Is it just me, or are there suddenly adverts for dance classes everywhere? I have seen two at my local gym and loads in the local paper. And any notice board I happen upon seems to be a hotbed of salsa, rumba and ballroom.

Obviously I blame Chris Hollins for this. He and his colleagues on this year’s Strictly have inspired thousands of us to dust off our tutus and take to the dance floor, or in my case evacuate it, as the mighty Cascada so eloquently put it.....

I spoke to Chris yesterday who is preparing somewhat nervously for the quickstep this week. He tells me he’s lost around 5 pounds since he started on the show and loves the physical fitness side of it. But he says the mental side is really tough. Remembering all the steps is a real challenge, especially in front of a studio audience never mind the rest of us in TV land. And you only find out at the end of the Saturday show, what you have to learn for the following week, so there isn’t much time to prepare.

I think he’s has taken to the show like a duck to water, unlike the magnificently awful John Sergeant, who ploughed a brilliantly dreadful furrow on last year’s show. The public loved him though for his haplessness and it started me thinking, who would make my Strictly Come Dancing Fantasy List.

Well Boris Johnson for one. He would be a marvel to watch on and off the dance floor, with what I’m willing to bet are two left feet. John Prescott - no-nonsense. I could see him and Craig Revel Horwood falling out. Martin Johnson - for the man mountain meets peeny weeny dancer angle.

Wee Jimmy Krankie – simply TV gold. Jordan – high maintenance. Lady Gaga – because she is. Oh and Lewis Collins (Bodie from the Professionals) – eye candy.... or at least he was about 25 years ago.....!!!

Obviously I would love to know what you think. Any better suggestions? I bet you have. I will of course feed them all back to Chris, who can then feed them back to the producers. And who knows, maybe next year....... Have a great weekend and do get in touch. I really enjoy reading your posts and of course joining in the debate. Yours in sport x

  • jamieB 'Hello Sue, I'm a big fan of Chris Holland due to the early Saturday sports reports (early mornings with kids) he did a few years back and the challenges they got him to do which he always trired his best and excelled! I was saying to My Love after last week's show that he has the likeable factor which could take him all the way as well as the b*lls to try the difficult stuff where others might suffer. He's great and I'm betting my kids Uni fund on him - please win or it's a bad OAP home for me... I'd like to admit as a real man - the other Editors will tell you I am - I've actually started to like Cascada! I know this is sad and my German exchange student felt insulted that I should equate their success to the greatness of Germany - he couldn't see it! As far as dream contestants? Any of the Williams sisters or, just for a laugh, Jose. I'm sure the special one would be special although I would love to see Giggs swanning around the dancefloor like he does through inferior defences in the EPL.... Regards JamieB PS - Tell Chris to Look Good, Dance Good....' added 2nd Oct 2009

  • Boom_Boom_Pow 'O.k Strictly Fantasy here goes. Phil Brown (Hull City Manager) - the tan would blend in well, Judi Dench - there is nothing like a Dame, Jeremy Clarkson - the powerrrr, Arlene Phillips - judging should be interesting, Peter Griffin (Family guy) - should get on well with Clarkson, Cheryl Cole - might solve a few ITV/BBC scheduling problems, George Alagiah - how gorgeous is he on the dance floor, June Brown - service wash anybody?, Kanye West - Mr shrinking violet and finally Sue Thearle - come on it's got to be done.
