You know you’ve made it when there is a queue of BBC presenters waiting to have their photo taken with you. No not me, they were waiting for the new World Heavyweight Champion David Haye, who I think it’s fair to say had a life-changing weekend. It looked more life-threatening on Saturday night when he went into the ring with Nikolai Valuev and promptly broke his hand in round two. But in true plucky British fashion, he soldiered on bravely to go the distance and still outbox the beast from the east. I got a glimpse of his poorly hand at close quarters this morning.

He came onto the BBC News Channel to have a chat and try as I might to shake his right hand, I couldn’t......because it’s so badly swollen. Honestly it made me feel ashamed for every having moaned about spinning.....

I was struck once again by Haye’s charm and intelligence, even though he is clearly knackered. He tells me he’s off to Vegas this weekend to touch some flesh and show everyone the belt. What a crazy lifestyle. One minute living like a monk and training like a nutter. The next being treated like a king, wanted by every television/radio/newspaper outlet around and having to fend off numpties like me, who try to squeeze his poorly hand. The man is a legend.

Speaking of legends, I also ran into the lovely Chris Hollins in the make-up room at 6am this morning.....ahh the relentless showbiz glamour. He is also on a high, although he didn’t break anything whilst performing Saturday’s Foxtrot in Strictly ...... But he was terrific in Blackpool wasn’t he? Now he’s preparing for the Paso Doble.... He’s not relishing it I can tell you. But you’ll be pleased to hear all is not lost. I have offered my capable assistance.... he said he’d get back to me.

On the sporting front I have done so little it is embarrassing. However I am making a return to the golf course tomorrow...... yes for the second time this year, yes I did say second, I shall be dusting off the old clubs and heading out for a thrash in the woods. I will of course report back and let you know how it goes. I will make a bold prediction now. I think I will be awful.......

Outstanding of David Haye - love his humbleness if you can say that.. Delighted that Chris is still on the show - he's good fun.
Been threatning to take up golf to annoy my husband who's fanatical about it - don't relish spending too much time being a golfing widow - so need to stand up to the plate and get out there with the sticks..
