Lazy old bones

Hello dear friends and welcome to another week. I fear I failed slightly on the military fitness. I gave it a great deal of careful thought and consideration, before hitting the snooze button and snuggling down in bed, until rudely awoken by my children of course. In fairness my knees and now ankle are playing up a little, so there was some medical mitigation.....

However I will be taking it on very soon I promise and I did also manage another 3 mile run this weekend, so I wasn’t entirely bone idle. Speaking of which I was intrigued to see Jessica Ennis describe herself as lazy this morning in The Times. Really? Lazy? Blimey, that made me feel so much better about missing military fitness. Her diary makes fascinating reading, offering a real insight into the daily grind of what it takes to make a world champion. I was tired just reading it.

It inspired me so much, my next task is to tackle the last of the fitness DVD’s that have been sent my way. It features yet another former Eastender who has decided to shape up. Like Hannah Waterman and Natalie Cassidy before her, Jessie Wallace has hit the gym in a big way and turned into a muscle-bound waif. I shall throw myself into her latest offering with my trademark gusto and report back promptly (knees and ankle permitting of course).

And when it comes to injuries, well Justine Henin is hobbling through the rounds at the Australian Open at the moment. She had black tape just about everywhere as she battled to overcome the effects of a muscle tear to reach the last eight of the tournament. It would be a fairytale if she could emulate the achievement of compatriot Kim Clijsters and win a Slam at the first time of asking after a spell out of the game. Nadia Petrova now awaits in the quarter-finals and although I think she might squeeze through that one, I think she might just come up short this time. But it is fantastic to see her back and that backhand – well it’s a thing of beauty.

Right I am off to conquer the world of sport and fitness..... starting with a spot of hoovering. Yes it’s all go in my showbiz world I can tell you. After that I have to go and get worming tablets for the cat.... honestly my life is a little bit like Angelina Jolie’s, in so many ways.....
