Running away from me......

So in between training like a demon and working like a dog, I am also getting a tad over-excited about going racing at Cheltenham next week. Ahh yes the rigours of training will be forgotten as I sup gently on a pint of the black stuff, actually that’s a fib I will probably have a shandy, and gaze in a melancholy fashion as my horse ambles home in last.

Actually I won’t be abandoning the training completely. I will be doing shuttle runs between the on-course bookies before I have a flutter. Essentially I have no idea what I am doing, but despite my bumbling buffoonery, I got 3 winners, two seconds and a third last year. Boy was I full of myself.
It was the thought of running around the Guinness Village, where you never know who you might run into (I interviewed Darren Clarke there no less a couple of years ago), that kept me going during my interval training yesterday. We did six sets of intervals based on the old tried and tested 4 min gentle run and then a 2 min fast run. We also changed our routines by ignoring the Siberian winds on the wilds of south-west London and opting instead to do it at the gym.

It was all going terribly well until my husband ambled over for a chat as my running mate April and I started our penultimate interval. All going marvellously I chirruped, before having one of those Bridget Jones moments, when I accidently hitting the emergency stop button. Fortunately I was accelerating from a gentle pace so I didn’t fly off the back of it. But I think it’s fair to say it was a low moment..... My husband scurried away hurriedly, for fear of bearing some indirect responsibility......I ploughed on pluckily, cursing my bad fortune and gutted that I wouldn’t be able to enjoy that readout at the end, where I would have had the number 1 ranking and shown off about the fact that I had burnt just under 600 calories........ Sometimes life just isn’t fair is it? FYI I'm going to attempt 7 miles tomorrow......... but not on the running machine.....toodle pip.
