Strictly Confidential

Sep1220093:33 p.m.

Okay so there's only a week to go until the new series of Strictly Comes Dancing begins and I can contain myself no longer. I shall be glued to this year's show for two reasons. Firstly and most importantly, I made my almost 6-year-old daughter a solemn promise that we would watch the new series together this year. We caught a bit of it last year and she was desperate to see it regularly, but it was on a little too late for her.

But this year we are dusting off our pom poms and counting down the days until Brucie is let loose on our screens once more. But the second reason for SCD being must-see TV this autumn, is the involvement of my old mate from the BBC Breakfast sofa, Chris Hollins. Now the notion of squeezing Hollo into sequins and tight trousers may appeal to many. I must confess it's not a vision I have lingered too long over..... But I am dying to see him dance the tango and rumba, which he tells me, are the first two disciplines he has to nail.

The show starts next Friday night (Sept 18th) and is followed by a second show on the Saturday, at which point someone will be booted out and Hollins is hoping against hope, like everyone else, that it won't be him. It will be fascinating to see how he gets on. This man is an Oxford Blue in cricket and football. Indeed he's such a talented sportsman, he's scored a century for the MCC at Lord's no less. But can he cha cha with the best of them?

Strictly Come Dancing Chris Hollins & Ola Jordan

One thing is for sure, he'll be a giggle to watch. He's a lovely man and very funny to boot, so brace yourselves for a rollercoaster ride. I shall of course be voting furiously for him every week, to keep him in. And I'll be giving you the inside track from the show via the lovely Chris. So any gossip and you might just hear it here first. Who do you think will win? I think Phil Tufnell is a real dark horse. And Natalie Cassidy might do well too.

Oooohhhh I can't wait. And in case you are a fan, here's the website, so we can all get excited!!!

  • markinthepark 'I haven't really looked at the details but does this mean we are having 2 nights a week ruined by over-hyped, never-ending dull television? Personally I am bored silly of the dancing, singing, talent, musical, voting shows on tv. ' added 13th Sep 2009

  • Flanker2 'OK I'll go for the gossip and Sues friend, but for gods sake, the programme is hosted by a bloody reptile with a fake tan!!!!! Bring it into the *noughties* at least and make it more interesting?.....' added 13th Sep 2009

  • Sue_Thearle 'Well, well, I see I have stirred up something of a hornets' nest here. I must say I think Brucie is a legend and for a man of 81, to operate without autocue or an earpiece, I think is exceptional. However, having watched that documentary about him, where he went into excruciating detail about how he liked his cup of tea prepared (bearing in mind he doesn't actually make it himself), I might not want to be invited to his house...... Keep those posts coming in though. They are fab and a really good debate. Oh and btw, having spoken to Chris again, he tells me that Joe Calzaghe is training like a demon and could be fantastic. You heard it here first!' added 14th Sep 2009

  • Johnf 'Dancing has no interest for me, well apart from when I am forced to dad dance, yet I know I'll watch it every week and miss it when it finishes. It is a good challenge between the actors who have often had dance training, and the sports stars with natural athleticism and a winners mindset. Where Chris fits in that I'm not sure. Tuffers for me, just for the fun.' added 15th Sep 2009
