The Hitman and Him

Jan2820101:57 p.m.

Well my little fitness chums, this blog is a little later than planned for two very good reasons. (a) I wanted to wait until the end of Andy Murray’s match – hurrah! And (b) I have been interval training this morning. Oh yes. Me and interval training. What good buddies we already are.... I hadn’t done any kind of workout like that since I played football to a moderately successful level (Millwall Lionesses no less) and I remembered why after the first sprint.

My friend April is the brains behind this particular training programme and I have to say it is painfully enjoyable. We did 5 intervals consisting of a 5 minute run, a one minute walk, a one minute sprint and a two minute walk. At the end of it, although I think we can safely say I was knackered, I did want to do it again. Not straight away obviously, but next week, hamstrings permitting, I shall be chomping at the proverbial bit.

Because if there’s one thing I have picked up from the tidal wave of Fitness DVD’s which has engulfed me since Xmas, it is that interval training is fantastic for fat burning. And that is why I can’t wait to have another go at it. That and all the Toblerone I ate yesterday....

And the training also gave me the perfect excuse to get away from the flamming tennis. I went out running at the end of the first set, which of course Marin Cilic had won, so I wasn’t expecting great things when I got back in the car at 11.30am. So to hear that Murray was two games away from victory was a super surprise.

I think the wee lad is looking terrific this year and I really do think he should beat either Federer or Tsonga. There is no doubt he is in the best shape of his life and his tennis has reached another level in Melbourne. He has a great record against Federer in particular and really should feel confident about his chances. And he also has Ricky 'the Hitman' Hatton in his camp, and that must help surely. In fact Murray has admitted that boxing is his favourite sport. So if all else fails in the final, he could jump over that net and start pummelling Federer/Tsonga. That would work..... or then again perhaps not. Have a tip topedy weekend and come on Muzza.....
