As we continue to shiver under a new blanket of flipping snow, (one and a half mile round-trip in the snow to school was anything but a belly laugh this morning), I thought today would be the day to focus on a heart-warming story for the oldies. Well I say oldie. Sol Campbell is only 35, but that makes him almost ancient in Premier League terms. But look at him now. About to sign on the dotted line for Arsenal again, after a brief sojourn in League Two with Notts County.

He only played for them once, but that will surely make a great pub quiz question in years to come. Apparently he’s about to clinch a new deal after playing for the Gunners reserves and impressing Arsene Wenger with his fitness. He certainly wouldn’t have the blistering pace that he had in his pomp, but fair play to Mr Campbell, he is a total trooper and proof if proof were needed, that anyone over 35 can indeed offer something to the top flight. Hurrah for that.
In fact it’s been a cracking day for sitting indoors and reading the papers and The Times has got a great story about a tennis World Cup. It would effectively replace the Davis Cup, but take place every two years. It also offers some interesting ideas with the prospect of substitutions during matches on the table and the proposal has already received positive feedback from the top players like Mr Federer and the game's administrators. At the moment the event would be men-only (boo), but if it does take off, you can bet your bottom dollar that the women’s game will be keen to stage their own version of the event.

And speaking of tennis, three British men have reached round two of Australian Open qualifying. Alex Bogdanovic, James Ward and Dan Evans all won in straight sets to take a step closer to making it to Melbourne. Top effort. Let’s hope they do make it into the main draw where they can keep Andy Murray company in his bid for a first Grand Slam. Excellent. Even though the snow is still deep and crisp and even, I have inadvertently started the build-up to Wimbledon. Ace.
Right I am off to buy new jogging stuff. Really I'm not kidding. I am going to buy a thing you can put in your shoe that talks to you via your ipod. I honestly don't know what it's called, but a friend is going to help me buy one. I will of course keep you all closely informed. Happy snow-shoeing.

One of the reasons I love running outside is the peace and quiet of only my own thoughts, that nobody talks to me. Actually that might be the same the rest of the time!
Tennis story sounds good, will liven up a competition that hardly anybody watches or gets much airtime.
