Walking on water....

Now I know that as fitness fiends, we all like to think we can be a bit hardcore at times and push it to the limit, but the fund-raising efforts for Sport Relief this year, do make me feel slightly idle. Eddie Izzard is in a league all of his own. The man, in the nicest sense of the word, is insane. Lawrence Dallaglio and his Cycle Slam has been inspirational. And Christine Bleakley’s attempt to water ski across the English Channel today also caught my attention. Okay it’s not as mad as Izzard’s or Dallaglio's, but the Channel is the busiest shipping lane in the world and avoiding those tankers took some doing.

Water skiing is something I have never tried and it suddenly made me realise I’d love to give it a go. I have come close. On a recent holiday in Greece I almost booked in for a session and then dozed off on the sun lounger and forgot all about the whole thing. But it is something I will do this year. Right there’s a statement. Even if it means hoisting myself into a wetsuit and doing it in the UK, (blimey that is a horrible thought), I will do it......

Fair play to our Christine. It took her an hour and a half to reach La France and is a considerable achievement for someone who hates water and can’t swim very well. And also top effort to her on managing to find some decent waterproof eye make-up, which weathered the test of battling a howling gale and vicious water spray. ........

So if you are remotely interested in having a go at water skiing, there are 120 clubs in the UK where you can sign up for lessons. British Water Ski and Wakeboard is the governing body and they can help you find your nearest club on their website.....I shall be looking, or I will cheat a little and do it in the Med this summer, but rest assured sports fans, the gauntlet has been laid down. On a less happy sporty note the 7-mile run was postponed yesterday on account of a sore foot (April's my running mate) and a sore knee (your truly). So I am attempting it tomorrow...... no really, I am......Have a great weekend..... See Christine's great effort here.
