Feeling a Little Out of Sorts
After Saturday's 'marathon' I am still feeling really tired and slightly out of sorts. I just haven't got my bounce and enthusiasm going just at the minute. I thought after doing over 20 miles I would be jumping through hoops with excitement but maybe the memory of the pain is still too raw!!
On Sunday I was meant to do Saturday's 8 miler but I just was far too tired to even contemplate it. We had a lovely family day out and when I got home I just collapsed in a heap! My legs were really heavy and my quads were aching quite well, so much so I was hobbling around. I felt fantastic after last weeks 18 miles but this long run really took it out of me.
Monday was cross training day, and I took my youngest to the pool and bobbed about with her for 45 mins. Hmm I am not sure that really counts, but it was nice to do stretches in the water.
This morning I really had to drag my running gear on. The sun was shining and it was still cold. My running friend came with me at the last minute so in the end it turned into a good run. 5.27 miles in 50:39 so 9.36m/m which was a good pace on still heavy legs. If I am honest my foot has been worrying me a bit as it was aching after Saturday and I felt it might just be starting to misbehave. During the first mile I wasn't very happy but as I warmed up it felt okay so I carried on and am very pleased I did, but I am soooooo tired! Lots of ice at home as a precaution. I will try another 5 miles tomorrow and again on Thursday and then skip the scheduled 8 miler on Saturday to prepare for Silverstone. I hope I perk up by then!
Happy running all xx

ClareVR 'Well done getting out when you were feeling a bit tired and great pace. Just take it easy, you don't want to over do it in the final stretch, and you have put so much work in. ' added 9th Mar 2010

Well done for getting out there, and although you are very unlucky in that I am reading your blog directly after '40 miles in a couple of days' Sue Firefly, so the rest of our mileages seem to pale into insignificance, you have actually put some serious mileage in lately, so very well done!!' added 9th Mar 2010

Firefly123 'Well done for running despite the fatigue. You've had a horrid cold to battle with and that is going to affect how quickly you recover. And you've been doing some serious miles recently - and a 21+ one on Saturday, so don't worry and don't overdo it, especially with Silverstone coming up :-)' added 9th Mar 2010

gunes 'I also think you should have rest to recharge your batteries in preparation for Silverstone, and if you can I would thoroughly recommend you have a sports massage! I had one last Thursday and it felt like I had got a new pair of legs afterwards. And it worked wonders on my hamstring injury! I have already booked one for after the Hastings half Marathon which is just over a Week away!!! Well done on still getting out there :) ' added 9th Mar 2010

simonedumergue 'You have been training so hard lately, it is no wonder you feel knackered. Give yourself a good couple of days to taper for Silverstone so you can give that a good shot. And with your previous foot issue you don't want to blow up now. An easier day or two of running will do more good than harm at the moment. Take care!' added 9th Mar 2010

That's the time when our body does all the good stuff and makes them stronger, ready for the next lsr. Give your body time to recover, decrease your mileage or take some extra time off before silverstone. Don't want you risking any injuries at the weekend. Take care!! :0) remember the bigger picture!! Way_Too_Slow 'Remember my post from a week or so back, rest is training too!! If you are feeling tired and your foot is still sore, PLEASE take a few days off. In the grand scheme of things, missing a couple of runs won't make any difference. Doing too much and knackering yourself might!!!' added 9th Mar 2010
