To wee or not to wee? That is the question....

After informing my running buddy that I would not be blogging about this, here I am! Stay hydrated! they cry, they don't then advise you on what to do when you're 'caught short' on a long run with no hope of bladder relief for a good 5 miles or more!! I am a huge fan of Runners World magazine and I know this has been covered as a common fear of long distnace runners but they haven't mentioned the lack of bladdder control a lot of women experience especially post children! And yes i religiously complete pelvic floor exercises twice a day when brushing my teeth, that way i never forget. Now I love running, the escapism, the physical benefits, the freeness of it, but this is an issue that is starting to concern me as i approach my first marathon! As the unsupportive words from my friend ring in my head "what are you going to do on marathon day?!" I can only panic, thinking......"I DON'T KNOW!!!" if i can't sneak off into the bushes on a dark foggy night in front of a friend i have no hope of relieving myself in the nations capital in front of a 5 deep lined pavement of strangers!!! i'm helpless!

giff1967 'Yes , I had this crazy idea for months that I would hardly drink anything during the marathon so I wouldn't be looking for a loo all the time! Fortunately , common sense prevailed and on my long runs I just find a bush and stop my watch. A friend of mine took seven hours to run a couple of yrs ago and she blamed this on too many loo stops! Nick 'No need to panic on the London Marathon route. There are hundreds of portaloos on the course.' added 7th Feb 2012

Rob_Barber 'Toilets every mile on the marathon course. On your long training runs, you just might have to accept that occasionally you're going to have to jump over a farmers gate and crouch behind the hedge, or in more urban settings, detour by a supermarket or cafe or something - anywhere they serve food, they have to have toilets.' added 7th Feb 2012
