Climbing every mountain....

Jul1820122:25 p.m.

Hey everyone. Hope everything back home is well and I'm looking forward to getting back and enjoying some long summer days. Wishful thinking right? Well I have to say that my last week in Aix Les Bains was amazing. I finally really started to get a good feeling with my training with lots of very solid sessions completed and I was able to really push on with my training buddy Brad Kahlefledt. He's looking very good for the Olympics, be sure to give him a big cheer as well as the British athletes in a few weeks time. It's been an absolute pleasure mixing it up with the Australians the past 3 weeks and I'd love to say that this won't be the last time I'll be over there. Fitness wise I feel like I'm very much on the right path to some really good performances this year. I'm still very much aiming to be in top shape in late August in time for the last races of the year.

Climbing every mountain....

I definitely feel that as you get a bit older and your fitness base gets larger, you seem to be able to get fit very quickly so you're able to have a second wind during the year. It's a nice feeling that you can always turn it around relatively fast! This week we were lucky enough to have the Tour De France pedaling past right on our doorstep. Normally it's a bit of a faff to actually manage to see the Tour; there is normally a fair bit of organisation and driving involved to time it right and parking is a nightmare with the volume of traffic to get to the best spots, not to mention the waiting about for them to finally come past. But we simply finished 3hrs of our 4hr ride and pulled up half way up the monster climb the Grand Col Du Colombier just in time to see them hammering past.

I've got to say, these guys are incredibly strong, so hats off to them. It's amazing what they can do for two and a half weeks in the Tour De France and it was a pleasure to watch them. So we're now on the long journey back home now. We split the journey in half this time to pay a quick visit to the Champagne region to celebrate my wife's birthday. I allowed her to book us a nice hotel and meal out and unfortunately for my bank account she interpreted this as a night in a Chateau and a meal in 'The Continental'. Still it was really nice and we got a big case of champagne to hopefully celebrate something this year.

I'm not home for long. On Thursday I'm off to compete in my next race in Hamburg. It's probably my favourite race on the circuit. It's a city I can feel really comfortable and happy in and that always makes me feel confident for my racing. I've only ever had good performances here, so I hope to keep that up! It's the last race for almost everyone before the big one in London, so it'll be really interesting to see where everyone is at with their training. I predict there will be a lot of people in fantastic condition, a lot of people who are very tired and need the next few weeks to freshen up and a few who have totally overdone it!
