Overview

Finally got the go ahead from the sponsor - Prostate Cancer Charity - for London 2008. After finishing Berlin last autumn in a minute less than four hours I am aiming for 3:45, maybe even 3:30 this time.

twenty three yesterday and i would have gone the full length if it had not been for work...
All despite the fact that I realized after four miles that my blisters really were caused by my (relatively new!) shoes. Inside edge has become so sharp that there is no walking even after a few miles. Donned my old shoes (500miles +) and had no problem going the 23 miles. Apart from the fact that the cushioning is completely gone. Bit bad for bones and joints. So off to Running Bear for an exchange today...

forgot to mention: did a bit of experimenting yesterday: did the 23 miles with no carbo loading and no food, no gels, just drinking lucozade, to see whether I would hit the wall. Worked out indeed...

Berlin! Runner's Paradise!
Excessively wide pavements, sensible traffic lights, massive forest, clean air, excellent paths with no rubbish swirling around and millions of dogs who treat every runner to complete ignorance. If you ever get here, don't forget your runner's kit.
It's such a joy that there is a significant risk of over-training.

First 16-miler yesterday in fairly miserable conditions. Fortunately the rain started after the runners high fully kicked in, so hey, what the ****?!
Time wasn't too bad either. Also funding is coming along all right although it trickled down a little bit. So keep the funding going folks!

Just back from a 14-miler along the river Mersey in ankledeep mud. Took me 4 hours. I just cannot understand why the British don't give a **** about the condition of their public paths. No pavement, deep holes and it takes a five minute drizzle to turn a potentially beautiful and inviting path into a complete disaster. No wonder most people are couch potatoes here. This would be a fine day to go and drag that councillor down to the river and stick his/her smug arrogant civil servant smile into the mud.

Only 3 miles today just squeezed in after diy and before picking up daughter and cooking tea.

Been down with bloody flu for a few days. That makes a big dent into my training program especially as I could not do my 14-miler on Sunday. But managed a 5 1/2 mile today on shaky legs.
